"You don't belong with my son. He's meant to be a wonderful man and marry someone who can help him achieve his goals. You can't be that girl!"
...
"AHHHHH!"
...
"See you at the bottom!"
...
"AHHHHH!""AHHHHH!" I woke up with a scream that mimicked the two from my dream. I shook violently as both memories played clearly in my head over and over again! I had warm tears streaming down my face from my fear.
"Layla!" Weston said as his came in my room. He stares me down in my eyes and I was finally able to take a breath normally. "You can't keep waking up like this! It's been a week and every night it gets worst and worst! And on top of that you're not able to fall asleep after it. I really think you should be going to therapy again." I shook my head.
"I've dealt with this kind of stuff since the last accident this time's not different." I took a deep breath and I saw Weston shake his head.
"Yes it is! You have two accidents haunting you this time and you remember both of them now! And you're blanks are getting more random!"
"They've always been random." I said frustrated. Weston looked to me angrily.
"Anything else you're not telling me! I've learned more about you in this week then I have in your whole life!" I remembered that he thought that my blanks were triggered like everyone else and I let out a sigh. "I'm supposed to leave in two days but I don't think I want to! You have to call mom!"
"No." I said. I got out of bed and left the room with Weston right behind me.
"Then tell dad at least! They can't think you're perfectly fine every time they call!" I turned on the lights in the kitchen and go through my fridge. "I'm worried! You've been keeping so much a secret from us. You keep it from everyone!" He said frustrated and I stop moving.
"Not everyone." I said with a sadden voice. Weston understood what I meant and sighed.
"Call him if you're so sad! Layla, I don't know what else to do for you! But it sounds like he knows you better than I do." I closed the fridge as I pulled out the milk.
"We've been over this." I poured a glass as I talked. "I'll be fine, I've been through all the steps of recovery before I just need time." I looked to Weston and he was shaking his head.
"This time was different from the other. The last one you fell on accident this time you were bullied into it, in away." I closed my eyes as I realized I should acknowledge the new information I have.
"The first time wasn't an accident." Weston looked at me confused. "I didn't remember this till last week but I was dragged there by some people. They pushed me down on purpose and I still don't know why."
"I didn't know that. Everyone said you were just walking down those stairs on your way to class." Weston looked unhappy and I placed a hand on his shoulder.
"Please don't presser me into getting help. All I want is help from my brother. I don't want someone else dictating how I feel because they won't know me and they haven't seen me at my worst like my big brother. Just be here for me, be understanding." He sighed and nodded.
"Fine, fine but you have to Google how to deal with trauma and learn a few more things about it." I nodded and he pulled me into a hug. "I just want what's best for you." I nodded against his chest.
"I know."
Weston went back to sleep and I returned to my room. I looked around and I took a deep breath. I was a mess and so was my room. There were so many cloths on the ground that I couldn't even see the carpet any more. All my drawers were open and cloths were hanging out. My legs limped around as I began to clean up to pass the time till morning.
As I clean, my leg with the bad knee banged on a box. "Ohhh!" I said silently. I looked over to the box and pick it up to see what it was. I placed in on my bed and I looked at the label from Amazon. Once I read it I remembered what it was. It was the box that Alton sent the books in for my birthday. I don't know what caused me to open the box but all I saw where the book I had put back in there when I finished reading them. But sat on top of all of them was the two notes.
Happy Birthday Layla
And
˜ Alton
I sighed as I opened each book and looked at the signed pages. I don't know what possessed me to feel as hurt as I was. I didn't even date him! I hated him before and then the camping trip happened, or maybe it was before that. I shake off the feeling and close the box again.
I finish cleaning and by the time I'm done its 9 o'clock. I go to the kitchen quietly so I won't wake up Weston. I start make some coffee and as that cooked I went out and grabbed my mail from the front office. No one was awake so I stood in the lobby looking through each piece of mail. It was just all bills and ads for other things. I grab the things I want and dump the others in the trash. When I get back Weston is chugging a cup of coffee.
"Isn't that hot?" I asked and he lowered the cup with a nod. "Did you burn the top of your mouth?" He nodded. I sigh and pull an ice cube from the freezer. "Here stick this in your mouth." I pour myself a cup and turn to see half of the ice sticking out of his mouth. He looked at me like he suddenly remembered something. He spit the ice cube into his hand to talk.
"I texted Sarah and told her to come over she said she would be over once she gets Jackie out of bed." I took a deep breath and nodded.
"Okay. Now please put that back in your mouth that's gross!" He smiled and threw the ice cube at me. "Stop it!"
"Layla!" Sarah yelled as she entered my house like she always does when its unlocked. "Weston, you beautiful boy where are you?" Sarah said with a little girly squeal as she raced in and hugged Weston. "Are you interested is ending your current relationship?" She said with a smile.
"Are you?" He asked as he pulled her off him.
"I guess you're right. We could have been something special but now it can never be!" She said all dramatic. She turned to me and sighed. "Your hair is a disaster!" She said and Weston nodded as he agreed with her.
"You sound like my mother." I said and Weston started laughing. Jackie came up from behind me and draped an arm around my shoulder.
"Layla, why haven't you called us? We worry about you too. You should see what's going on with Alton he's total freaked out by the whole event and he keeps mumbling to himself about something!"
"Jackie! Let's go stand somewhere else!" Weston said slightly worried and pushed both girls out of the room. This was the first time my mind traveled to the thought of how he must be doing. I know he cares about how I'm doing and I haven't told anyone what's going on. And on top of that I was so rude to him last time we talked. I keep getting calls and text from him but I haven't even looked at them. I haven't even picked up his calls or listened to his voicemails. I've cut him out and I feel so guilty about it! I walked over to everyone and smiled.
"So when are you going back to work?" Sarah asked and we all sat down.
"Tomorrow and Weston is leaving on Saturday." Sarah had a pouting face and she turned to Weston.
"But I just got to see your beautifully chiseled chin!" She smiled and he looked so mischievous.
"You remind me of a guy." Sarah's smile didn't leave though.
"That's okay because you're bisexual!" Jackie laughed as his joke was turned back on him.
We talk to each other and they tried to take my mind off of everything that's been going on recently but it was still in the back of my head. My head was swimming with so many thoughts and it was all so over bearing. I've dealt with this type of physical pain before but I've never had to deal with something this confusing! What even is the first step to feel better in this situation?
