My parents dropped me off at my apartment after we went out for my birthday and head back home. I sighed as I walked into my apartment and turned on my lights. "Surprise!" Both Sarah and Jackie yell as they jump out at me.
"AHHH!" I yelled and fell backwards onto my butt. Jackie helped me up and Sarah was dying laughing.
"Are you okay?" Sarah laughed as she wiped away a tear. I nodded and took a deep breath.
"Happy birthday!" Sarah laughed. I walked over to the couch and sat down.
"I have one question, why would you do that!" I asked as I held my hand over my heart.
"It's your surprise birthday party with your two favorite people!" Jackie said and Sarah ran to the fridge. "We got you this!" She said excited and pulled out a giant cupcake with a single candle on top. "Sarah! Where'd you put the lighter?"Jackie said as she searched my kitchen. Sarah gave her the lighter and she brought the cupcake to me. "We can't sing so... happy birthday!" Jackie said with a smirk. I blew out the candle and looked to them.
"I can't eat that by myself."
"Of course not!" Sarah said and grabbed the cake. "You can have the bigger piece but you have to share!" She said as she eyed the cupcake like she eyes every food. "We have movie popcorn and ten movies for you to choose from."
We picked a movie and ate our chocolate cupcake. The movie was great but it was getting really dark outside and we were all getting tired. Jackie was struggling to keep her eyes open and Sarah had to physically hold her eyes open. I had to stay awake anyways so I could get Sarah off to night school before she completely passed out.
Near the end of the movie we hear a knock on my door. Jackie is automatically awake; probably thinking it's a masked murder. Sarah looked up at the door all groggy but laid back down not caring who it was. I got up and opened the door only to see a box on the ground. I pick it up and bring it in.
"What did you order?" Sarah asked as she looked over tiredly.
"Nothing?" I look at the label on the box but all I saw was my name. I look up at Jackie and she only shook her head probably thinking there's something dangerous in the box. I looked over to Sarah and she nodded as her curiosity got the best of her. I opened the box and saw another box wrapped in shining colors. As I pulled the box out a note fell onto my lap. I opened the note eagerly as read it aloud. "Happy Birthday Layla, that's all it says."
"Open it before I do it for you!" Sarah said and I opened the box. Inside was the whole series of my book. I opened up the first one and thumbed through it. "Did anyone write in it? You know like the cliché 'I love you' note in the movies." I shrugged and turned to the cover page.
"It's sighed. By the author!" I said and looked at the other books "They all are."
"Didn't you tell me the author was in town for a book signing?" I nodded and Sarah smiled.
"Someone got you the books!" She squealed and I covered my ears. I put the books back in the box and we continued with what was left of the movie. My friends fell asleep quickly and I cleaned up the house before I decided I should wake them up. Once they made it back to their apartment I went to sleep myself. Who sent that package? I don't talk about my birthday openly and I didn't remember my birthday till yesterday. Who could have known to get me those books?
