Not So Insane After All

Chapter seventeen (Lucy)

 After i escaped with amber we got in her car and started for the free way. We sat in silence i keep on seeing her looking out of the corner of her eye at me. I just sat there wondering what was on her mind. Unsure myself on what just happened i was still shell shocked. "Am i really out?", i wondered to myself as i debated on whether i should open my mouth or keep it shut. I had no idea what happend.

"Fuck, wait is all a dream again? I swear if it is." i said that out loud shit.

"You know what? I was wondering the same thing." she responded, we both laughed half heartedly. I looked at her, she is pretty, she looks offly young, mabey nineteen- but she can't be that young- she's not much taller than me. She just sits there and contus to drive.

"So um, shit." she said

"What?" i say

"Well i was going to say something but i couldn't think of anything to say. So i just started my sentis for no reason." she says as she smiles. We sit for a little and just talk about the basics. Like my favorite color, how i got enrolled. What my life was like before. What i wanted to do with my life, etc. once the conversation kind of died down i tought,

"That's a good way to start a conversation." then i giggled to myself. She looked at me and giggled too.

"So where are we going?" i asked amber. She looked at me took a deep breath and shrugged her shoulders, and answers

"Well i know a place, i over herd phil and mark talking about it, they said that they were going camping there. Talking about how nice, remote, and quiet it is. So maybe it would be a good place to hide. So let's stop by the store and grab some necessities, also some new clothing for you." she said as she pulled of the free way. We pulled into a small town with a little strip mall. As she parked her car she handed me a jacket out of the back. As we headed into the mall she told me i could shop wherever i wanted. I walked in and out of stores amazed on how much the style has changed since i was enrolled, it's kind of amazing how much can change with in a few years. I only had her get me a few things. Then we headed out to a walmart and got some necessities for camping. Then we were on our way to the camping sight. After a few hours of driving we finally got there,

"Which way should we go? I'm thinking that way." amber said as she pointed north. I sat there for a few seconds. I was thinking too.

"Well i think we should go west. Because the path looks less used and the brush is thicker s we wouldn't have to worry about anyone seeing us." amber looked at me weird. Like she was surprised about how smart i was, " look i may seem dumb, but it's just a act. I was going to be valedictorian in high school, i was a straight A student believe it or not. Now let's head west." she looked at me again. "And yes i know the direction and time, just by looking at the sun." i said as i tuned my back on her and started walking until amber noticed something.

"Wait- is that marks car?" she stated as she pointed at his car only about fifty feet away from us. We walked up to his car and saw a note in it, the keys where on the ground. I grabbed the keys and unlocked it, reached for the note, and read it,

"Zeke,

First and foremost. Fuck off. I had phil bring me a new car, and we drove away with jack, dan, and chloe. So don't ever try to come find us because we are gone. So just let it go.

Hope i never have to see you again- mark."

"Short and to the point." amber exclaimed as soon as i was done reading it.

"Well i think we should get rid of your car. And keep marks keys just incase. Do you have anyone who can come get it that you trust?"

"Well, yes but i really don't want to call her." amber said as she pulled out her phone. I saw her scroll until he got to a contact labeled. "My ex babe"

"Whos that?" i asked, while kind of feeling jealous.

"My ex-girlfriend... this is her car but she gave it to me so id have something to drive. But i can just tell her to meet me here and get her car back."

"Well that would be ok." I stated. We waited for her to pick up the phone. It took about three tries but she finally picked up.

"What do you want amber?" the girl said as she picked up the phone, amber accidentally started to play with her hair and pulling on the parts of her weave. She sat there in silence.

"Hello? Bitch if you just called me for no damn reason.." amber's ex said obviously pissed.

"I had a reason"

"Then why the fuck did yeah call?"

"Well i just wanted-" amber go interrupted by her ex

"If you called to ask for me back? Naw B. that ain't happening" she said in a snarky tone

"No no that's not it at all! I just wanted to see if you wanted your car back?" amber said in self defense.

"Oh i see, you want me to come get my car then your going to come and try to sweep me off my feet again. Well guess what? I have a boy now."

"No please just come get the car it's ok i have... i have a girlfriend anyway." i sat there shell shocked. I gave her a look of "what the fuck man"

"Alright fine. But i don't want no bull shit, mkay?"

"Yes ok that is totally reasonable." amber said. Once they got off the phone she looked at me freaked out.

"Why? We aren't dating. So why say that?" i asked her as she kind of just looked at my feet.

"Well it was the only way to get her here. Unless you wanted to find someone that was the only way. She is stubborn as shit, and it's hella hard to get her to come and do anything. Once she has her mind made up she doesnt change it, unless you got something good." i looked at her for a moment

"So what are we going to say if she asks us questions?" i asked her. Once we figured out our story we just sat and waited for her ex.. It took about three hours for her to get here.

"Why the hell are we meeting out here?" amber's ex exclaimed as a huge dark male stepped out of the car.

"Well cari, i just thought it would be good for you to come get it from here because we are going to live up in the mountains and i didn't want your car to just sit here and rot away. So i thought you could come and get it." amber said according to our made up story. I was her hippy girlfriend who hated the city and wanted to move into the mountains to "find myself" and asked amber to join me we meet at a poetry slam. And i loved the way she spoke about saving the world.

"That's quite, what was the poem?" cari asked while looking my up and down. I put on one of ambers dresses and made a flower crown out of some weed flowers we found. I also part my hair down the middle and tested the ends. Our story was complete.

"Lives are crying because it's not clean, Earth is dying because it's not green...

Earth is our dear Mother, don't pollute it, She gives us food and shelter, just salute it...

With Global Warming, it's in danger, Let's save it by becoming a strong ranger...

With dying trees and animals, it's in sorrow, Make green today and green tomorrow...

With melting snow, one day it will sink, How can we save it, just think...

Trees are precious, preserve them, Water is a treasure, reserve it...

Grow more trees, make Mother Earth green, Reduce pollution and make her a Queen..." amber read off her phone

"It was a poem by Avani Desai who is my favourite poet" i stated.

"Alright you two nature loving weirdos, can i just have the keys to my fucking car?" we gave her the keys, and as soon as we did she walked to her car like her life depended on it. She hopped in and her boyfriend hopped into the other car and they took off.

"Finely we can go!" amber shouted

"Alright let's go." i said as we both grabbed some stuff and headed west but all of a sudden i heard a voice yell my name.
