Park?
I read Brennen's text that popped up on my phone. I instantly replied and got ready. I changed out of my sweats and loose t-shirt and slipped on a pair of jeans and a gray tank top.
I arrived at the park in about five minutes and he was already there. I felt sort of bad since I made him wait, but let's say he was already at the park when he texted me and had hope I would agree and show up on such short notice.
He was wearing a pair of cargo shorts with a red tank top. Tank twins! We talked for a little and then went on a swing set like a pair of kids. He decided to push me, and then he pushed me so hard I almost flew off.
My mark was heating up. Well shit.
"Y-your shoulder..." he whispered, more to himself than to me.
"Haha, about that." I awkwardly laughed and then ran behind him before he could make a run for it.
There it was, tiny, but there it was. Holy mother of cheese sticks, there it was. The cause behind all of this.
We stared at each other in astonishment as we both realized the blue glowing marks on the back of our left shoulders. And then he snorted.
"You're my soul mate? Funny." He stated, quite arrogantly if you ask me. Well, that hurt a lot nonetheless. "How can you be my soul mate? We don't even like the same things. You're like, a mouse. I am a vicious snake. We are no good for each other. We shouldn't be friends, or 'soul mates'. This," he motioned between us, "is a mistake. I'm sure the mark is for Leah, never you."
I rolled my eyes at his mediocre statement. That last sentence made my heart drop slightly. So, he does have a mark. At this point, I almost felt my mark shrivel up.
Even at this ridiculous point, my mind flashed words that even shocked me.
Opposites attract.
"Right, you're acting like I actually planned for you to be my soul mate? Yeah, I called up the big guy and said "Let Brennen Myers be my cute and cuddly little soul mate!" because I didn't, you arrogant asshole. I wish I could take this hideous mark off of my body and find a soul mate that would mean something to me." I was sputtering this out with so much anger in my voice I wasn't even sure it was me. He glared at me and I returned the gesture.
"You know, I wish I never saw you at that fucking coffee shop." I snorted. Well.
"Yeah, you and me both. No one told you to come harass me in my booth!"
"Harass you? Please, I was simply checking to see if the damsel in distress was okay. You were on the floor for Christ's sake!" He glanced at his phone and huffed. "I don't have time for this petty arguing shit; I need to go meet someone. I am not, and never will be your soul mate. I don't have the mark for you." He stated again. His eyes glimmered with hatred.
He spoke with so much venom dripping from every word, it almost made me cringe. Almost.
"You think that, you egotistical bastard. But you can't hide from fate!" I mouthed off, thinking of the words from the book. I regretted it the second it came out because he stormed over to me, filling the gap between us. It's like I could feel his rage radiating off of him. But I didn't let that intimidate me. I stood my ground. In fact, I think some of it might have seeped into me.
"Why can't you get it through your narrow-minded head that I am not your soul mate?" He said as he gritted his teeth. I watched as his jaw clenched.
I stared at his unique eyes and wondered why he was the one that would be my soul mate. Well, I never knew if he had the mark for me, so maybe it had formed for that cute puppy I saw last week. Or maybe that llama I saw at the zoo not too long ago.
