Why? Why me? Why did I have to be death? Because you wanted to be with Thomas after he died. Yes, but I didn't sign up for this. You shouldn't have killed yourself then. I didn't know that this would happen! I didn't want this! The voices in my head finally die. I sit in my dark kingdom, watching from the tall balcony window. The living cannot see...unless they are dying, but very few humans are dying in their cars on the interstate. I gripped the railing, waiting for it to happen.
The accident that would kill at least twenty and would wound plenty more. I squinted my eyes and closed my eyes when I saw the approaching headlights. The drunk driver would be around soon. I closed my eyes when I saw the drunk driver and the car collide, sending the caravan into the air.
Flipping through the air it smashed into other cars. The screams of frightened people as they tried to flee their destiny filled my ears, but before I could look away, I saw him. Thomas. He was running out of his car, a small child in his arms. Elizabeth? I shook my head, the voices returning.
That's impossible. They both died in that fire. I saw the car as it began to descend upon them and without thinking I pushed my arm out, throwing the car into a nearby field, where its rolling came to end. I was just in time too, because the car was mere inches away from crushing them both.
Thomas rose from the ground, the child shaking in his arms and he stared out at the car. Then he turned and looked straight at me. I quickly tossed my cloak over my face. "Shit," I whispered when I heard the familiar sound sound of billowing robes and the familiar smell of sulfer engulfed my nostrils.
"What have you done?" the angry voice asked. Tears built in my eyes, and I started to blink them away. "Answer me!" I jumped and slowly turned to face him. His skeletal arms were crossed, and he looked pissed.
"I couldn't watch them die," I said softly, my head dropping.
"I gave you one task! All you had to do was collect the souls of those that had died. And now, because of you, several people have lived."
"I didn't mean too! It's Thomas! He's alive!" He shook his head and without moving a muscle, threw me into the wall behind me. I fell down to the ground in a crumpled mess.
"I collected his soul. You know I did. I showed you. Now, I have to clean up your mess."
"No!" I shouted. He looked down at me, his eye sockets staring at me. I quickly rose to my feet. "Please, don't kill him. I'll take care of it. I swear." He nodded his head and I could hear the bones rub against each other.
"Alright. You have three months. Don't disappoint me again, apprentice." With a billow of black smoke he was gone. I snapped my fingers, going down to the scene of the accident. I looked for Thomas, but he was no where in sight.
