Chapter 1

Hermione hurriedly walked through the streets of Hogsmead village, pulling her coast more tightly around her body to protect her from the cold, harsh winds.

Upon seeing the sign of the Three Broomsticks, she relaxed.

Her best friend Harry Potter was sitting inside, waiting for her.

After finding out about Kiely’s father, she waited two whole years before deciding she needed to confide in someone. Unsure about trusting Ginny Weasley with something as delicate as this, which also concerned her brother, Hermione decided to tell her best friend Harry all about it.

Hermione walked into the Three Broomsticks and saw Harry seated in the centre.

He smiled at her as she walked towards him and Hermione relaxed a little.

She sat down opposite Harry and smiled.

“Thank you ever so much for coming Harry.” She said. “You have no idea how important this is.”

Harry nodded. “You’re very welcome Hermione, but what is the problem you spoke of in your letter?” He asked, his tone questioning.

“It’s Kiely.” Hermione said.

Harry nodded, telling her to go on.

“I found out when Kiely was nine months old. I was unsure about what to do for a while, but now I’ve decided I need to confess to someone.” Hermione said.

“Confess to someone what?” Harry asked.

“Kiely isn’t Ron’s daughter.” Hermione whispered.

Harry looked shocked for a moment but swiftly regained his composure. “If Kiely isn’t Ron’s daughter, then whose is she?” He asked.

“Fred’s.” Hermione whispered.

Harry looked up, his eyes almost popping out of their sockets.

“Fred? As in Fredrick Weasley?” Asked a bewildered Harry.

Hermione nodded solemnly.

“How?!” Harry asked. “I mean are you certain? No mistakes?”

Hermione shook her head. “I’m certain.”

“How?!”Harry asked.

“After the war, everyone was depressed, you know, because of Percy’s death. One day I was at home and Ron just snapped and went mad on me about nothing. I apparated and to my surprise, I appeared in Diagon Alley. I bumped into Fred and seeing I was upset, he offered to buy me a drink at the Leaky Cauldron. After a few drinks, the two of us were a bit tipsy and we went back to the shop and the rest, as they say, is history.” Hermione finished.

Harry nodded. “How come Ron never found out?”

“The next day, Ron and I made up. He apologised for shouting at me and afterwards we . . . um . . .” Hermione trailed off, her cheeks blushing scarlet.

Harry raised a suggestive eyebrow and Hermione mock-glared at him.

“That’s why I never questioned that Kiely was Ron’s. It never crossed my mind, you know?” Hermione said.

Harry nodded. “So what made it cross your mind then?” He asked.

“It’s the way she was. She acted like him. Always smiling and laughing. It made sense.” Hermione said.
