Like clockwork, Lauren answered the door to be greeted by flowers and a letter. It had almost become routine now, but that still didn't make it any less heart-warming.

Dear Lo,

Six. The number of years since we first slept in the same bed. It may have been on a tour bus in the most uncomfortable bed I have ever slept in, and we may have had to wake up at an ungodly hour so you could creep back into your own bed to make sure none of our friends would get suspicious. But it was the moment I realised with 100% certainty that there was no one else I would rather spend the rest of my life with, no one else I would rather fall asleep beside, no one else I would rather wake up to.

Surprisingly, I can't even remember why it happened. All I know is that I definitely wasn't going to turn down the chance to have you sleep in my bed. Even though it most definitely was not designed for two people. I'm very glad we've slept together in much more comfortable beds since.

I can't believe I'm lucky enough to be the one you chose to fall asleep and wake uo beside for the rest of your life. It's not the same sleeping without you, and I can't wait to be back with you soon.

Lauren let out a laugh, partly to stop herself crying. Even after so many years of being together, she still couldn't understand how he could be so funny and then cut straight back to the emotional stuff. Obviously her particular soft spot for him didn't help matters.

She went into their bedroom and picked up his pillow, inhaling deeply. It was faint, but she could just about detect his scent. It smelled like his hair gel, his aftershave, and something else she couldn't quite put her finger on but which she very much associated with Joey.

'Your pillow still smells like you' she sent.

'Your jumper still smells like you' came the reply.

Then, a second later, 'Forget I said anything. You weren't supposed to find out about that'.

Lauren smiled. 'I forgive you. It's not like I've never taken one of your jumpers when I've been away'

'At least you know you're going to get yours back'

She laughed. He made a very good point. Not that she would have been mad about it anyway. The fact that he'd wanted to take a part of her with him melted her heart.
