Lauren had invited Jaime over for breakfast that morning (very much in need of a good catch up and someone to pull her out of her constant thoughts about missing Joey) when she heard the knock at the door.
"Give me one minute," she said, putting down the plate of bagels she had been holding.
Jaime looked at her with wide eyes as she brought the flowers in.
"I wondered where all these flowers had been coming from."
She opened the envelope, biting off a piece of bagel as she did so. She could feel Jaime watching her intently, and tried to ignore it so she could read Joey's letter.
Dear Lo,
Five years we've been together now. And it has been the greatest five years I ever could have wished for. I am so lucky I get to call you my girlfriend, and I feel blessed every day that I get to wake up beside you and know that I couldn't be happier as long as I have you by my side.
It's crazy to think that I almost didn't tell you how I felt. Becoming your friend was one of the greatest things to happen to me, and being your best friend was even better. I had someone who would listen to me and laugh at me and celebrate with me and talk with me for hours about all sorts of things, and I couldn't think of anyone I would rather do that with. So I was terrified to tell you that I was falling in love with you. I never thought you would feel the same way back. But I knew I would regret it if I didn't, because you are the most wonderful person and I couldn't live knowing that I missed an opportunity to be with you. I'm so glad you felt the same way.
I love you so goddamn much Lo. Here's to many many more years.

She felt herself starting to cry and blinked rapidly, hoping that Jaime wouldn't see, but it was too late. She felt herself being pulled into a hug, and she let herself be held for a moment before she pulled back, insisting "They're happy tears!"
Jaime smiled at her. "I know."
She texted him once Jaime, who made her promise to tell her all about the rest of the letters, had left.
'You made me cry'
'I hope that's not because you were sad at the thought of having to spend even more years with me'
She rolled her eyes.
'Of course it wasn't. I can't wait for more years together Jojo'
'Me neither'
