Devin dragged herself out of the wrecked ship, trying not to scream in pain. Her head was killing her, and her right leg was bleeding heavily from a deep cut. She had wrapped her jacket around it as best she could, but she badly needed actual medical supplies.
She hoped some equipment survived the crash. Otherwise, she might not make it until the planet's next day cycle.
Looking up, she saw a large moon in the sky, just above the horizon. The atmosphere was tinted purple in the light of the setting nearby star. The world was strange and mountainous in all directions. Odd plants dotted the landscape, and thankfully there was breathable air.
However, there was something deeply unsettling about this world that she couldn't put her finger on at first.
Slowly, it came to her.
It was completely quiet. There was no breeze, no animal sounds-there was nothing. Between crashing on an unknown planet in a distant galaxy and the silence, Devin knew which worried her more.
Hands down, it was the silence.
Because in that stillness, it felt like there was something alive, and it was watching her.
