Today I slept in far too late. I think this whole 'school' thing is exhausting me, considering I usually wake up around 6 each morning. I sometimes wish I had someone to wake me up in the morning, like some kids do, but all I've got is my grandma, and all she does is play bingo in the living room.

I sprinted to school, and as I turned the corner to 1st period, I tripped and fell.

Right into the arms of Harrison.

I know, cliche much? But don't worry. He isn't my type.. Anymore. I don't have a type. I hate everyone equally.

"Babe, are you okay? If you wanted some of the H-Man, you could've asked." He snickered as he helped me up.

"I'm not your babe." I grabbed my books and started walking away dramatically.

"I see you haven't changed, Ley."

Those words stopped me in my tracks. He's the only person who calls me Ley, other than my dearly departed dad, and I can't believe he's using my old nickname. He thought it was clever, most people called me Ash, and he would call me Ley. Then I would be "Ashley."

Yeah, it was cute then, but now? It brought up so many painful memories and made my heart ache.

I decided the best way to leave this conversation would just be to walk away. No use indulging the past.

I was able to get to 1st period on time, surprisingly. And every other class. I was able to get away with practically anything, because teachers couldn't look at me without their eyes glazing over, as I said, I'm basically invisible.

After school, I drove to Mari's house. It's this big house with hundreds of windows. I loved it. I remember when we were young, we would pretend we were disney princesses. She would be Sleeping Beauty, and I would be Belle. And together, we'd fight crime. I miss the old days.

Marianna heard me pull in and greeted me in the driveway.

"Eeeee!!!" She squealed. "I'm so happy you're here! Now you can look peerrrfectt."

I followed her to her room and gasped. Her closet had gotten even bigger than it was when we were younger. She threw designer jeans at me, and flowery crop tops. I even got a few new pairs of shoes. I tried everything on and I couldn't believe how thin I looked.

"Damn Mari. How much is this going to cost me?" I spun around in the mirror again, the fancy clothes practically sparkling in the wind.

"They're free! I'm just so happy you're back. You just have to stay in school till we graduate!" She cheers and throws me some necklaces. "Yaaayy!"

If only she knew how long I had left.

Mari grabbed my hand and led me to the bathroom.

"Time for makeup!"

2 hours and 36 painful minutes later, I was finished. My long brown hair was perfectly curled, and my eyes mascara'd.

I slowly turned to the mirror.

Holy shit, is that me?

I looked at every inch of my face, I couldn't believe my eyes could look so golden compared to their usual poop-brown. My cheeks and lips were all perfectly evened.

I was, in fact, beautiful.

"I'm guessing by your lack of words, that you like it?" Mari giggled.

"I love it." I giggled and danced around. Which was strange, I haven't done that in years. I think Mari is rubbing off on me.
