CHAPTER TWO

“MOM! MOM!” I yelled running down the stairs. It was Saturday and mom was  just about to leave for work but I caught her just in time. Mom works from Monday to Saturday but unlike weekdays, she works half day on Saturdays. My dad left us when I was two so it was Kailey and mom to face the world ever since. Thankfully she’s awesome so I’m good with just her around. I had been telling her since last year about this party so, hopefully she’d say yes to this invitation. “Hey, I’m just about to leave. Breakfast is in the microwave,” mom said as she placed her hand on the knob. “Ummm mom,” I studied how to put it for her to say a definite yes.

“Yes dear?” she looked really confused right now. “Last night I got invited to the summer bash party thing I was telling you about and Lily and Elizabeth got invited too and Lily already volunteered to be our transport. And I could go right?” I took a deep breath. “Well why not,” as she said this I turned to walk away because I knew there was always a continuation to any of her her short sentences. “I’ll have to talk to their parents first.” And back around I turned.

Well once mom call Liz’s parents and tell them yes, Liz’ll get to go and when Liz’s parents call Lily’s parents well … she’s spoilt so she’ll get to go whether she ask or not. “Okay but its tonight so make your arrangements today, before noon, okay?” sometimes she forgets things and this i needed her to remember. “Yes pumpkin, now before it gets late for me …” she trailed off looking at her watch. “Oh I should’ve left five minutes ago.”  She kissed my forehead before walking out the door.

Mom is a time freak. To her, the word ‘LATE’ is a terrible four lettered word. I locked the door and whistled for Max, my pup. Max is about four year old, human years. I consider him as my brother/best friend.  He’s caring and supportive; he’s always around when you need him. Reason for needing him will be if I feel lonely or sad … sad is rare but I do tend to feel lonely a lot. Now that summer started and mom will be working a lot, I’ll need him around 24/7.

“Heyy babyy,” I said in that adorable voice everyone puts on when talking to an adorable looking thing. I stooped to his level and scratched his ear causing him to get carried away and he rolled on his back for me to tickle his tummy. “I’m hungry, are you hungry boy?” he replied to me by wagging his tail. I headed off to the compartment in the kitchen cupboard which is especially for Max. All his foods and toys etc. are stored there. Yea, he’s one lucky, spoilt dog.

I took out his favourite bowl and filled it with dog chow. I opened the fridge, grabbed the milk, went in the cupboard (not the one where Max’s stuff are), got some cereal and poured some of both in a bowl. I put everything in its places, grabbed my bowl of cereal and Max’s bowl of dog chow and headed for the couch. I put his bowl down and slumped myself on the couch. I switched the television on and while I flipped through the channels, I shoved my face with Froot Loops.
