CHAPTER SIX
I woke up to a very eerie sound. It made me jump awake. Something was scraping my door. I sat up and crawled to the edge of my bed where I cautiously put one foot down then the other. The scarping stopped as soon as my feet touched the ground and I froze. Not much than I second later I got back my bravery and gradually made my way to the door. As I reached out to turn the knob the scrapping was heard again loudly and I jumped. I grabbed the nearest object, a slipper, and slowly opened the door wide enough to get a peek at what was scraping at it. I was ready to face whatever it was when I immediately stopped with the slipper in mid-air. “GOD MAX!” I opened the door the widest it could go, dropped the slipper and scratched his ears. “Never scare me like that again, please. I was gonna hit you.” I gave him a kiss on his fur and headed down the steps with Max on my heels. As soon as my feet touched the ground floor the smell of pancakes hit me and I walked faster to the kitchen. “You’re making the whole house smell like pancakes,” I took a deep breath in. “That’s a good thing right?” mom then took a deep breath in, inhaling the pancake smell. “Yes!” It’s awesome to be in a pancake smelling home. Mom put two pancakes on my favourite blue plate on the kitchen counter along with the syrup. I sat myself down and began to dig in while mom took off the stove and put the rest of pancakes away. I guess she ate already. “I been thinking…” she trailed off. “What have you been thinking?” I stopped eating and looked up at her. She sat herself directly opposite me and continued, “What are your plans for this entire summer?” She seemed really serious as she said this. “Umm, well basically reading all day, playing Dl, no more parties and hanging out with Lil and Liz. Not much.” I paused. “Why?” I looked at her very confused. “ How about you get a summer job?” I froze. I never thought about getting a summer job. “Umm,” I paused “I guess it wouldn’t hurt to get one, I mean it might be cool.”
-HALF AN HOUR LATER-
I skipped through pages on the newspaper looking for jobs wanting employees. I looked specifically at jobs in the mall. I’d always wanted to work at the mall for some reason.
