CHAPTER FIVE
Something felt heavy on my stomach and the room was unusually dark. I opened one eye then the other. Immediately my eyes flashed to the direction of the object on me. My laptop. It was then I recalled being on Dl, I wondered if the game was still on. I sat up to recover my laptop from hibernation but something else had my attention. This wasn’t my room. This could never be my room. There was always the street light streaming through my windows at any time of night and at this point it looked like this room had no windows at all much less for any light. I rolled to the end of the bed to put my lamp on but, when I felt around there was no lamp. What was happening to me? Did I lose my vision?
Oh no, I never thought this day would come. Plus, lately I’ve been eating my carrots. Nevertheless I sat up, felt for the laptop that shifted from my stomach and when I found the power button, pressed it. There was light. I wasn’t blind. I breathed a sigh of relief as I punched in my password. As my laptop wallpaper greeted me, I adjusted the brightness to the fullest, lifted the laptop, facing the screen to the room and looked around. The walls were blood red, and there was actually a window, except a black curtain completely blocked it.
There was a red comfy looking carpet covering the entire floor and a black door to the corner of the room. Oddly enough the only thing in the room was a bed, my bed, the only object that looked familiar. How could such a large room be so empty? I got up slowly from the bed, the laptop’s screen still facing the room and I looked carefully before me as I walked. This was very new to me, it was the oddest thing and it made me feel so confused. As I approached the black door, little to no light seeped through beneath the door.
I analysed the door and it’s knob before reaching out and turning it slowly. As soundlessly as I could, I pushed the door open and was greeted to whispers that halted as soon as I came into view. There were about ten persons in the hallway, staring at me. Something about them didn’t look normal. I stared back at them as I tried to figure it out. Was it the fact they were taller than me? Was it that they were awfully pale? No! Their eyes! As my brain worked in full whack, a girl who looked younger than me headed in my direction and she had….warning! warning! She’s got yellow glowing eyes.
This is not normal! My feet listened to the warning bells in my head and I felt myself moving backwards. I remembered her being approximately twenty feet from me but in the blink of an eye she was right in front of me and she held on to my arm. Not to tight but not to slack at the same time either. Her eyes were now hazel and she spoke softly to me. “Are you okay?” “Where am I?” I switched her question around. “You’ll find out some enough.” She looked quite kind and friendly but the fact that she didn’t answer my question got me a bit annoyed with her already.
“I know, you must be really confused and all but you know where you are and it’d best if you figure that out on your own.” She let go of my arm. “But...I don’t,” “Don’t overthink it, by the way I’m Bridgette,” she put out her hand and I gladly shook it, “I’m Kailey.” Maybe, if I become her friend, she might spill where I am or something. “Come meet everyone else,” she tilted her head in the direction of the awkwardly too quiet people who look normal now but didn’t before and they’re scary. I stayed in spot. “Don’t be afraid, they don’t bite,” she walked off slowly and for some reason I followed.
As we neared, they began whispering to each other and they made it so obvious that they were whispering about me. Was I having a bad hair day? Was there something on my face? Why were they looking at me like that? “Hello there,” a guy who looked around my age smiled at me. “Everyone this is Kailey,” Bridgette said loudly but softly at the same time. “Welcome Kailey,” said the same guy. “Thanks I guess though I don’t know where the heck I am.” I forced a smile back at him. He took one step forward from everyone else as he said, “I’m James, from the left to right in order is: Katy, Damion, Willow, Brent, Thomas, Caitlyn, Lucas, Fletcher, Holly and Marisa.” He took a deep breath and smiled, again.
