Chapter Fourteen

~Dani's P.O.V~

What the HELL just happened?!

One minute we were held at gun point and the next, the man was on the floor, grunting under Gabriel's foot. I shook my head, bewildered. Where, in heavens name, did he learn to do that?! I thought, completely confused.

At that moment, Gabriel was practically dragging me by the hand away from those creepy thugs.

"Gabriel!" I yelled, annoyed at the way he was dragging me like a rag doll, "You're hurting me!"

Then he dropped my hand as if I had burned him. We stopped a minute to catch out breath, and he just stared at me, eyes feverish. "I'm sorry. I... Didn't mean to." He said, his eyes afraid. Afraid of what? Me? Surely not.

"I'm okay. Gabriel... Are you okay?" I asked, kind of afraid of the way he was looking. He looked so vulnerable, so fragile, but so strong at the same time. He looked afraid, like he did something unforgivable. Something was wrong with him.

 He just shook his head. Wait, so he wasn't okay? I'm confused.

"I'm telling you Gabriel, I'm fine. Don't worry, okay? It didn't really hurt. Let's go." I said, grabbing his hand and pulling him until he started walking on his own.

I shut up for the rest of the way. When we got to my house, I saw on the front door somebody had left a sticky note saying:

Okay, Dani we don't know where you and Gabriel went. When we woke up you guys were gone. Give me a call when you see this note, and if you don't call, then I'm calling the police to report you missing.

I checked the clock and read 2:30 am. Oh man, they were probably worried like crazy. I threw the note at Gabriel and picked up my cell phone and dialed Mia's number. After the third ring she picked up saying, "Dani?!"

"Yeah hey, It's me. You asked me to call you..." I left the sentence hanging.

"DANI!!!! W'HERE THE HELL DID YOU GO?!?!!?" She yelled into the phone, peircing my poor eardrum. "I WAS SO WORRIED ABOUT YOU AND GABE!!!"

"I know, I know... I'm sorry. I would've left a note but..." I left it hanging again, not knowing what to say.

"Whatever Dani, next time notify me when your going to leave in the middle of the night on a walk and not come back until 3:00 am!" She said, quiter, Thank God.

"Ok sure. I'll see you tom. Okay?" I smiled, happy that she cared.

"Fine. Oh yeah, one more thing. Tell Gabe that I'm dissapointed with him." She grumbled and I laughed.

"Sure. Bye." I hungup and said "Yes, mother." Sarcastically. Gosh, she didn't have to make such a fuss.

"Gabriel, Mia wants you to know that she's very dissapointed in you for not notifying her before you left." I smiled, Happy that he had somebody else looking out for him other than me.

He grunted, confirming that he heard. He was just sitting on the couch, staring moodily at the floor. That reminded me.

"Gabriel... What happened tonight?" I asked slowly, sitting down next to him. He stiffened, and loked up at me, searching my eyes. "What really happened to you? You can tell me anything, you know right?" I said, repeating the words he had said to me.

His eyes bore through mine, iced over in pain. It scared me, that look. It was like he was re-experiencing some major pain he had gone through. I took his hand and squeezed it and then he looked at me. He looked through me.
