Katie’s P.O.V.

“She has regained consciousness, I repeat she has regained consciousness. Her vital signs are slowly going back to normal, her blood pressure is now 140 over 90.”

I hear the female voice say to someone into a walkie talkie. I slowly open my eyes to see myself in an unfamiliar environment filled with machines and equipment. My vision is blurred as someone speaks to me.

“Hello, Katie? Can you hear me?” It was the same female voice from before.

“Y-y-yeah, I can.” I reply. “Where am I?”

“Honey, you’re in an ambulance on the way to the hospital. You were in a car accident, do you remember anything?”

I close my eyes to replay the horrifying memory. Harry and I were, at first, calmly talking about his relationship with Sam. It got out of hand and blew up into a full argument. It was such a stupid argument. He lost his focus on the road for just a couple of seconds and we collided into the side of a car that was turning. I remember the force of impact was so strong that I felt my insides getting crushed against the seat belt. Harry wasn’t wearing a seat belt so I watched him fly forward, hitting his head directly on the windshield. I remember seeing a pool of blood around Harry’s head immediately after the contact and then I blacked out. I cringe at the flash back of the crash, making me open my eyes again.

“W-where’s Harry?” I ask.

The woman pauses, then answers me. “Harry is in the other ambulance, unconscious. The doctors are unsure of his condition, so they are taking him to the hospital.”

“He’s my boyfriend, he has to be okay, please.” I beg as I feel a tear escape the corner of my eye.

“I’m sure the doctors are doing the best they can honey.” She responds.

Her calling me honey didn’t lighten the mood. I felt the ambulance come to a stop as the back doors open. A bunch of people wheel me into the emergency room and into an area blocked off by curtains.

“Katie, I’m going to ask you a couple of questions, so just answer them the best you can.”

I nod in response as the doctor asks me the first question. “What’s your name and where are you from?”

“My name is Katie and I’m from America.”

“Okay, why are you in England?”

“I decided to travel abroad for school, so I’m staying in an apartment with four other roommates.”

“So I assume you have no parents in the area?”

“Correct.”

“Is there anyone that we can contact so inform you of your predicament?”

I nod my head, saying, “You can call one of my best friends, Courtney. My-my phone is in my pocket, if it still works. Her number should be in there.”

I feel the nurse grab my phone out of my pocket, which luckily is functioning. I hear the nurse walk away with my phone, obviously going to call Courtney. Hopefully she will tell the others.

“Okay Katie, we are going to-” The doctor’s sentence was interrupted by the commotion on the other side of the curtain.

“Heart rate is dropping!” The doctor on the other side of the curtain yells. “He is going into cardiac arrest, grab the defibrillator, QUICK!”

There is silence for a second as the doctor next to me continues. “Sorry, we are going to move you to another room in the hospital since you are stable. We are going to move you upstairs into the ICU for a little bit, only to monitor you overnight and then if everything is okay, you will be able to go home tomorrow.”
