Sam looked at Mary and almost started to cry. That's when Mary started bursting out laughing.
"I'm joking! She just moved down the hall into the other cell!" She says as Sam doesn't seem very impressed, more like mortified.
"Oh Jesus Christ Mary!! Don't scare me like that!" She says as she gives Mary a playful shove.
"You are the one who fell for it! It's one of my symptoms; I'm a pathological liar!" Mary said as she kept laughing to herself. This sweet innocent girl has a wild side, good to know.
I joined in the laugh and then there was an awkward pause as I was still laughing and turned it into a cough, trying to make it seem at least believable.
"You. You're new here. What's your name? Sam asked me. This girl looked innocent, but at the same time like she's been through hell and back. She had piercing red hair, blue eyes and a huge scar that covered half of her face. She was missing a part of her right ear, and had two piercings in the other. This girl had been through the ringer.
"Umm uh hi. I'm Elle." I said, copying Mary's technique and stretching out my hand.
However, I was denied, and put my hand back.
"Nice to meet you, I'm Sam. I guess we are roommates. So, have you found your twin?"
"What do you mean?" I said. "My twin is-"
"Oh, you're obviously new. How old are you?" She said. Mary seemed interested, but decided to just go back to reading.
"17, almost 18." I told her.
Sam looked at Mary with a worried look. Mary then spoke up.
"Sam, Kiara told me she's a Code Blue." She said with a shiver. Code Blue? What the hell is a 'Code Blue'?
"Damn, you got a lot going for ya, kid."
"Wait, hold on. How do you two know Kiara?" I said as I sat down in my bed.
Sam and Mary looked at me like I had two heads."How do we know Kiara? She runs this ward. This ward is full of the most dangerous cases, labeled by codes. From White to the worst kind, Blue. You my friend, are a Blue." She said with some
pride in her voice, as if it was cool to be hanging out with me, a Blue.I was shook. I am ranked the most dangerous category of this place! Literally hours ago, I was just at school, like any normal day. Now I'm stuck in a jail? I don't even know.
"Wait, where am I?" I hadn't really questioned where I was and was more focused on who I was.
Mary was the first to speak out of the two.
"Elle, you are in the Norman Attan Correction Facility. It has been closed for 35 years. It is now being run by a group of people who have gone through the same thing that everyone is this facility has. We all have suffered the same thing one way or another."
"So," I asked. "What rank are you?"
"Well, Mary here is White. She's the least harmless person I've met, you don't need to worry. Just watch out for whatever she says, I wouldn't trust her judgement. I am Red, the second most dangerous. I've never met a Blue before, what did you do?"
I turned away from her, too confused and ashamed to answer. I was a higher rank than her, but that still didn't make me scared of her.
"Hey, I'm talking to you." Sam said, this time with a little impatience in her voice.
"I am not sure, I was blacked out when it happened. When I woke up, Kiara was on the ground, dead, and two officers had me in handcuffs."
Mary and Sam were shocked. Mary moved a little further away from me, terrified, while Sam stood her ground, but there was a little fear in her eye.
"So, you're telling me you killed Kiara?" Sam said with a fear in her face starting to form.
I hesitated before I answered.
"Um, yea, I killed her; I guess."
