Neal's POV:
In those moments when her lips had touched mine, I had lost myself in her. Her scent had made me intoxicated and the way she melted against me had my heart quicken. Summer was exquisite. I wanted to ravish her, right there! But then she had broken apart and I saw the fear in her eyes, this was new to her. And that had made me happy. Plus, the fact that I was the one who made her heart thud against mine.
Just those few moments were the most beautiful ones. I had left because I couldn't control my feelings around her. She had an odd effect on me. Whenever she did something, I retaliated. I felt every possible emotion I could when I was with her. I get protective of her, I get angry at her, I get irritated with her, I feel happy with her, I don't like her being sad, I feel hot, I feel cheeky and taunting when I'm around her, I even feel jealousy because of her. Yes, of Adam. And I didn't even know who he was!
But the most important thing was I wanted to be with her.
Most of the time. I wanted to be there every step of the way.
And that was creepy because that made me sound like a stalker, but I liked being with her. Very much so.
And I wanted to have her in my arms and kiss her senseless. So senseless that she would never speak of Adam, again.
I shook my head and warned myself. I was behaving like a lunatic. I had to get her out of my head.
I entered the office building still lost in my thoughts. I took the stairs in the same condition and I entered the office like that, only. Still lost in my own thoughts. And then I saw Summer. She was standing in a corner and she wa swearing the same shirt which she had worn when I had kissed her. Lucky, shirt.
A smile tugged at my lips when I saw her shaking her head at the phone and squeling 'eeeeeeee'. But her being overly excited, jumping in the corner and whispering vigorously in the phone broke me out of my reverie.
I couldn't hear much of what she was saying but some bits and pieces I understood.
"Oh, my God .. he said yes!"
"I know .. since .. school .. I didn't!"
"No, Adam ... tomorrow ... no ... House of Night ... yes ... excited"
Summer was still jumping but I froze in place.
I was an editor and I could finally make out that Adam had said yes to her and they were going to a famous pub tomorrow.
Great. Absolute bliss.
My jaw hardened and I cleared my throat. Summer whirled around and quickly snapped her phone shut.
"Why, thank you for finally noticing that some of us are actually working here." I said and Summer eyes widened.
"I was just .. it was important so I .." I didn't let her finish. She was already blushing and trying to lie at my face!
"Oh, spare me the details." I snapped and then I got back to my work. I didn't have time to waste thinking about how badly I wanted to break something because she was gonna go out with Adam and that too to a night club and she was feeling happy and excited when the last time I asked her to come with me, she had been terrified out of her skin.
"What's with you?" She demanded and my head snapped up.
"Excuse me?" I asked and I saw her flinch.
"Why are you so .. snappy and .. rude?" She asked and it was my turn to flinch inwardly. What was I supposed to tell her? How could I tell her? Can I tell her that only the mention of the name Adam made me wanna punch something, hard? Or that now, when I know she literally had a date with him I so badly wanted to shake some sense into her? I was jealous, okay. And I will not tell her that.
"Well when a person is trying to do some work and the other person is constantly giggling, whispering and jumping up and down for no reason, one tends to get irritated and then snappy and then rude." I said and I saw the hurt in her eyes. God, I had to stop talking to her.
"You don't know, if I have a reason or not." She said and if I was sober I would have smiled at her spirit.
"You wanna bet?" I demanded and I saw the disbelief in her eyes.
"You know what? Just shut up and do your work and butt-out of my business. This office is as much mine as it's yours." She snapped and before I could actually give her a piece of my mind, she clipped on her head-phones and started working.
God, this girl was unbelievable. She was irritating, snappy and rude and was accusing me!
Well, I couldn't care less. She could go to the moon with her dear old Adam for all I care.
I tried, I really tried not caring but when I saw how happy she was at lunch, it made me more angry.
And I knew, I was going to be there in HON, tomorrow night.
Alexis was not present at lunch today so as soon as I was done, I went to her cabin.
"Hey, Alex." I said happily and she smiled back.
"Neal, my man. What brings you here?" She asked and motioned me over.
"Oh, you didn't come to lunch so I got you some pudding. It's chocolate." I said and she grinned at me.
"Okay, what do you want?" She asked after taking a few bites of the pudding and I laughed.
"Well, I have to go to this night club tomorrow, House Of Night and I was wondering if you would go with me?" I asked and I saw this glint in her eyes.
"Um, just as friends, though." I added quickly and she laughed.
"I knew it! You're carrying a torch for Summer." She cried and I froze in shock.
"WHAT?" I demanded and she nodded happily.
"Lisa just told me that she's gonna be there with Adam, tomorrow." I hissed, so it was true. And she told everybody.
"No, it's nothing like that! Me, Nick, Joey and all are going to be there and they all have dates. I didn't know she was going there." I said quickly and her smile widened.
"Mr. Neal Metaxis does not have a date, huh. That's a first." She murmured and I slouched in her seat.
She wasn't gonna believe me. I just knew she wasn't.
"Well, if you don't wanna come then that's okay. I'll ask someone else." I said and started getting up.
"Dude, I was kidding. Sit down! Plus, I'm glad you asked me. I wanna see this Adam man, I don't think he's right for her." Alexis said and then she clapped her hand on her mouth.
"Shit. I wasn't supposed to tell you that!" She said and then slapped the same hand on her fore-head.
But her words got my attention.
"Why do you think that?" I demanded and she sat back.
"Okay, Neal it's a hunch .. it's probably nothing and I don't wanna go around .." She started saying but I cut her in.
"Why?" I demanded again.
"Um, well. She's been crushing on him since college and he never said yes to her but all of a sudden he wants to take her out to this club and all so I just thought .." I didn't let her finish.
First, Adam was a jack-ass to refuse her. And second, I liked Summer and I wasn't gonna let her get hurt over this bozo.
"It's decided then. We're going tomorrow." I said and then walked out of her cabin.
Tomorrow was going to be fun.
