"Ladies and gentlemen, it we have a winner." Zoë screams. "Leoni Hayes, please collect the trophy." I stroll over to the podium. Climbing the steps, I wave at the crowd. Zoë picks up the trophy, it's made of gold and shaped like a Pokéball. She hands it to me. "Let me hear a big cheer for Leoni." She yells. The crowd roars in approval. I examine the trophy, along the bottom are the names of what I assume are the previous winners. However the only name is Connor Lewis, repeated over and over again. My own name is engraved next to the army of Connors, man this guy has a reputation. No wonder he was so pissed when I beat him. And here I was thinking he was just a sore looser. Zoë puts her arms around me. "Picture time." She says in a sing song voice. I hold up the trophy and smile. The camera flashes in front of my eyes. God damn that thing needs a seizure warning.

I scramble away back to where Mr Pine and Nora are sat. Nora pulls me into a hug. "Congratulations." She forces a smile. I can tell she's not happy, she got knocked out on the first round.

"Ready to go?" Mr Pine asks. We both nod. "Come along then, if we're quick we might get a table at that restaurant we passed on the way here." He ushers us out of the stands.

We walk into the nearby McDonalds and join the order queue. "Really pa? I thought you meant that Chinese restaurant we passed, not this cheap joint." Nora rolls her eyes.

"Nora you know I don't do fancy." He yawns. "And besides, that place is always booked up. So, what do you want to order?"

Nora sighs. "Big Mac, chips and a Pepsi."

Mr Pine turns to me. "A box of chicken nuggets, chips and a Caramel Frappe." I shrug.

He chuckles. "We've got a posh 'un here." He walks up to the counter. "Hey can I get a box of chicken nuggets, two big macs, two medium packets of chips, one large packet of chips, a Caramel Frappe, a Pepsi and a vanilla milkshake."

"A family celebration dinner? Or are you just really hungry?" The lady behind the counter asks.

He laughs. "A family celebration."

"Ok sir I'll find you a table and we'll bring your order out when it's ready." Damn, this place got a lot more classy. It used to be just stand around for a decade until your orders ready, better hope there's a table available when it's done. We follow the lady to a free table and sit down.

Nora whips a 3ds out of her shoulder bag. The fact that she brought it with her means that she must of brought it to the tournament. Well, I guess that means I'm not the only one. We're both as crazy about Pokémon as each other. She smiles at me. "Wanna battle?"

"Sure." I take my own 3ds out of my bag and switch it on. Booting up the game, I ask Nora if she has my friend code. She does. I load festival plaza and select her name. I'm transported to the team select menu. Torracat, Butterfree, Alolan Raichu, Seaking, Rhyhorn and Togepi. Same as always. It feel weird playing this game again; I haven't touched it since I discovered this world. I mean, I haven't had any need for it. I've got a real life Pikachu for crying out loud. What more could I need? Nora selects her team and the battle begins. I send out Torracat, she sends out Decidueye. Damn, how far through is she in this game. No one I know is better than me at Pokémon Sun and Moon. Except Nora apparently. Decidueye uses Sucker Punch. It knocks Torracat down to half health. He uses Fire Fang but it only takes a quarter of Decidueye's health. It said it was super effective what the hell. Decidueye uses Leaf Blade. It takes Torracat out. "Ugh, no fair."

Nora giggles. "Sorry sweetie, guess I'm just better than you." Oh she did not just say that. Time to put on the try hard pants. I send out my second Pokémon, Butterfree. Sure, it's not the best idea having a bug type on my team this late in the game but she's just so cute. Also she's one of my strongest Pokémon. Butterfree uses Supersonic. It confuses Decidueye and it can't focus on attacking her. It attacks himself instead. "Son of a bitch." Nora mutters, quiet enough that her dad won't hear. She withdraws Decidueye and sends out Arcanine. He uses Thunder Fang and it wipes out Butterfree. I roll my eyes. Nora smirks.

"Here's your order. Enjoy." The lady who was behind the counter walks over holding our food on three black trays. She places them on the table in front of us.

"Thank you." Mr Pine nods, digging into his food. "Girls, put your games away."

"But pa." Nora juts out her bottom lip. "We're halfway through a battle."

"You can finish it later." He waves his hand dismissively. "You know the rules Nora, no gadgets during dinner."

"Fine..." She slides her 3ds back into her bag. I do the same.

My phone buzzes in my pocket. "Excuse me for a second." That's strange, it's an unknown number. I don't get texts from most of my friends let alone people I don't know.

'Give me a ring if you need me.' Give me a break. Who does this guy think he is? As if I'm even going to keep his number. Well, I am actually. I mean, I know the guy and I assume he's keeping mine. There's no crime in it, right? It's not like I'm ever going to use it, first impressions are everything and his wasn't exactly the best.
