"Who-Who are you?" I stuttered.
"Daughter!" He yelled happily, picking me up in his big arms. "I've got a plan for you my little girl, well wait until you find out what I've got!"
"Father um, what...what are you doing so late, the sun has set, you should be in bed,"
"Not yet girl, not until my conscious tells me to do so."
I had no idea what was going on, so I decided to test something. "Dad," He looked up at me, eyes wild and lips smiling crazily. "W-what's my name?" If he didn't know, then it wasn't him.
"Elsie." he seemed so sure of his answer.
"No dad, it's..."
"Don't say no to me, that's disrespectful." Whatever was taking over my sister and dad, they did not like being refused to.
"I'm sorry." I said, looking down. "What did you need me for again?"
My father started mumbling stuff about the Corr, an old wives tale, and stirring around a thick pink serum. "This'll show them." He laughed.
"Show who?"
"All them, all them who wished to be cured."
"Father, I don't quite catch what you are going to do."
"I need to find someone who can carry this into Zemira, without doing anything that will harm it." He said, still not looking at me.
"Father I can do it," I volunteered.
"No Elsie, this requires more concentration than ever, and I can't trust someone like you.
"Hmph, I think I can do it,"
"It will be too dangerous for you to attempt my sweet lotus flower." Father said.
"Then tell me what it does?" If I couldn't possess it, I wanted to at least know what it could do. "Pretty pretty please!" I begged.
"The Corr has struck me with an idea."
"The Corr? Is that why you look..." Dad looked at me. "Like you always do..." I lied.
"I don't know what you're talking about Elsie," He turned back to his work. "But I do know that if someone can tell Zemira that this is the cure for the virus, we'd be rich."
"Ooh," I said, pretending to be interested. I hated the idea, but I needed to learn more about it. I prided myself for thinking like Camber would. "What does it do?"
"It stops the virus so the person may live for five more days, they think they've gotten cured and then bam." He slapped his hand on the table, shaking the vials of serum. "They're dead."
"Sounds violent," I said, still not sure I wanted to be in on this.
He looked at me with his blood colored eyes glowing. "That's the point."
"I'm still confused dad, did the Corr inforce this...amazing idea into your head."
My father nodded. "Thanks to the Corr, we'll prove worthy of money, and worthy of existence, the Corr itself told me, sent vibrations through to me that she wouldn't kill us if we did this." He said, looking back at the serum. "So this is our only ticket to staying alive."
I ran out of the room, terrified. I didn't want anything to happen, to anyone. If the Corr did set out this virus, and was now killing people who wanted to stop it, turning innocent people into demons, someone needed to stop it.
I normally hated being the hero in these types of situations, but I couldn't tell my half demon half sister, and I wouldn't be able to tell Camber, he'd freak out too much. I didn't have any friends living in the outskirts of Zemira, so I would have to go in the walls to warn the people...
...of literally everything that I had found out in one night.
This chapter is alittle short and kinda scary I guess? anyway, hope you enjoyed!!! let me know if you want a second book after this one!
