Chapter 8

I woke up in a dark room, but there was a blinding light less than two feet in front of me. I squinted and tried to put my hand up to shade my eyes from it, but my hands were bound. When I looked down to see why, all I could see was pitch black. "How are you today?" A mysterious voice asked. I couldn't see anyone around me. I moved my head but all I could see was darkness, and when I looked straight, I could only see the light. I couldn't exactly explain it, and it seemed illogical.

"What is happening?"

The man repeated his question. "How are you today,"

"What is happening?" I asked again.

"How are you today?"

I hated having to hear that voice one more time, it felt like my ears were going to pop out of my head if I heard it again, I had a strong sense to answer, but I didn't want to give up. "What is happening?" I repeated.

His monotone voice only got louder. "How are you today?" It felt like it pierced a hole through my eardrum and stole all other thoughts that I had.

"I'm fine." I said, finally giving up.

"That's good." His voice continued. "What's on you're mind?"

"Wait, no, tell me what is happening-"

"What's on your mind?" He said, louder.

"I want to know what you're doing! That's what's on my mind!" I yelled.

"What else?"

"Are you not going to answer?"

"What else?" My heart started to pound. What was going on, why was this man tormenting me like this?

"I want to know-"

Something strange took over me.

"-how to talk to the Corr." I don't know why I said the truth, I couldn't handle this person.

"Ah," he started. "Well, we'll send a message to her, what would you like me to say?" The voice asked.

I could hear someone screaming from another room. "Don't listen Elsie!" It screeched.

"Elsie? That's a silly name," the man said. I nodded, but I had heard that name before, somewhere.

"What is your name?" He asked.

"Estelle." I answered flatly.

I could still hear the voice. "They're trying to..." muffles. It sounded like someone had thrown a cloth over the boys mouth.

"Well I promise you, Estelle, that we will get your message to the Corr, and I promise your safety on your journey back home." His voice calmed me, then I heard another.

"ESTELLE!" Its call was panicked. "Will you listen to Estelle?" I was aware now. "They're trying to brainwash you! You can't let them get to you!" He screamed, then there were more muffles. The voice had sounded familiar.

I remembered what had happened.

I tried to stand, but the cuffs on my wrists that supported me to the chair was too much. "Lorcan!" I screamed. "I need backup!"

"Kinda hard to give it to you when I'm being attacked myself, and in another room."

"Estelle, listen to me, you will be safe." I didn't fall under his spell, not again.

"Not with you!" I tried to kick, but my legs and ankles had been cuffed down too. I struggled, then felt a cold hand on my wrist. I could finally see my interrogator.

His face was grimy, hair sticking to his wet forehead. His eyes were a dark purple, and the clothes he wore were torn at his forearms, and they were light grey.

I fought to break free, but someone else had broken in that room, the intruder quickly kicked down the light so I couldn't see anything around me, and strangled the man.

"Lorcan?" I called.

His reply was on the other side of the wall.

"Kaliver!" Called the voice of my questioner. "How dare you turn against me, I was like a father to you!" He yelled, infuriated.

"I'm sorry to disappoint you, but I heard your conversation with her, and I want in on her quest." A familiar voice replied.

It was still pitch black, and I couldn't see anything, except the shine of a blade before it cut the cuffs off my chair. "Let's go." Said the intruder. I didn't need another second, I ran out to get Lorcan, who was struggling to fight off a TESTERS member.

Our masked intruder helped. He said nothing when we left, nothing.
