It was graduation day and I was ready to just walk across.
This day felt like forever to come. I was lined up and luckily my last name started with B.
"Welcome our Valedictorian Amare Barnes." I walked on stage smiling.
"Good Morning Class of 2018 and Class of 2018's families." People started cheering. I laughed.
"I was told as Valedictorian to say a speech which is weird because I never expected to be Valedictorian but let me start." I pulled out a Rubix Cube.
I scanned the audience for August but he wasn't here.
"This is a Rubix Cube. Right now it's all jumbled up and confusing which is sorta like freshmen year you are confused, you believe your same friends are forever, and reality hasn't hit you that you're almost on yo own." *Watch video & pretend it's Amare's speech.*
"In conclusion 2018 graduates, it may have took a while and we had many challenges but we made it now as we all split ways I want everyone here to know I love you and no matter what I'm here for you.
Even if we all walk out these doors and never see each other again. I am here.
And for my soon to be graduates and younger family members of these graduates today I have a few words."
I grabbed the notebook. "One day you'll be taking your last school test and you'll have your last fire drill and report card. One day you'll have your last fun, young, and wild Friday nights with the people you've made a million memories with.
One day you'll close your locker and walk out of them doors for the last time.
One day you'll be standing in an alphabetically ordered line in a cap and gown with people you've watched grow up. A lot of these people you'll never see or hear of again.
One day you'll forget about all the people you knew and you'll barely remember the memories until you find a picture that'll remind you of one.
One day you'll be packing up 18 years of yo life into boxes and hugging your parents goodbye
One day you won't be in highschool anymore and you can't depend on momma and daddy to jump to the rescue and the sad part is we're always ready to leave so soon. Cherish these moments because once you're done there's no more coming back. Thank you Class of 2018 for all the lessons y'all have taught me and finally WE MADE ITTTTT!!!!"
People began clapping. "Thank you that was wonderful Ms.Barnes."
I sat in my seat on the stage as they called names up. I told myself I wouldn't cry but it was so hard as I watched everybody walk on stage receiving there diplomas.
It's really over. It all happened so soon. I was told by my own mamma I wouldn't make it across the stage but look at me.
Darius grabbed his diploma and took a picture with the principle.
"Put em in a coffin!!" He screamed and fell back and jumped back up. I laughed hard as fuck.
"Amare Barnes." I stood up and did the same. "Gone hit that hoe best friend." I heard Bre say I laughed.
I started doing the blocc boy. "Ayyy okay okay yessssss get that shit." I did the shoot all the way back to my seat. "Fuck you mean." Darius said shaking up with me.
______________
They finally got to Bre name she did what everybody else did. She stopped by the stairs. "Now I can scream that we made it
Now everyone, everywhere I go, they say 'gratulations
Young nigga, young nigga, graduation
I pick up the rock and I ball, baby
I'm looking for someone to call, baby
But right now I got a situation
Never old, been Ben Franklins"
