(Jake's POV)

Heading up to the main gate I cut through a less used area of the garden and notice someone hurrying through the are. “That's odd.” I say to myself and move a little closer just to see if by chance a guest had gotten lost, but just as I go to call the person I realize that is they are heading to a servants entrance that very few know of.

Suddenly I hear a carriage pull up and the person slips in. I have a feeling something isn't right, and so I quietly draw closer to investigate. There are voices I hear, but I can't tell who the people are that are talking.

“I went down to the cabin. Don’t worry dear, I made certain I was not followed, and I came to tell you that Elphaba is asleep. There is no way she would be able to show up at the party even if she wanted to.” An unrecognizable female voice says.

“What did you do?” A male voice is heard.

“I made sure she had the special tea with her. I figured it wouldn’t hurt to be a little extra…”

I  didn't wait to hear anything more or to find out who was talking. I probably should have, but when they mentioned Elphaba I got very worried.

The cabin came into view about ten minutes later, and I was quite winded! It hadn't been since the night Elphaba had showen up that I had felt the need to move that fast. Trying the door I breathe a sigh of relief that it was unlocked, and so I let myself in. “Elphaba?” I call out a little. There is no answer. “Elphaba?” Just a little louder this time, and again no answer. Something is definitely wrong.

I begin to check rooms and just when I fear the worst I see her asleep with a mug of tea on the end table and a book on the floor where it had fallen from her hands. Quickly I rush over to her, and grab a spoon that is next to the tea and hold it under her nose. She's breathing. “Elphaba, wake up!” I say slightly shaking her. “Elphaba! Come on! You need to wake up!”

It takes near ten minutes to wake her, and she seems confused. “J-Jake?” She mumbles finally focusing in me. “Wh-what’s going o-on?” She stammers. I sigh in relief that she has actually woken up. “It seems you passed out.” I tell her not wanting to worry her by mentioning what I had overheard. “I came down to see where you were.”

“What time is it?” She asks sitting up straighter, and I chuckle. “It is around ten thirty.”

“WHAT?” She says standing abruptly. “Sweet Oz! Jake what do I do? I'm going to miss my appointment!”

“First off calm down.” I say chuckling. “Get yourself cleaned up and changed. Your appointment can wait a few minutes longer. I will go get you a horse and meet you at the spring house just down a ways further from here. You will not be noticed and should  be able to get back in with little to no difficulty. Now hurry!”

A little while later Elphaba meets me down near the spring house. “How do I look?” She asks me, and I smile. “I think it suits you fine. Now, get going. He won't wait for you much longer. Oh! Elphaba, take this.” I hold out a small coin purse to her and she takes it looking confused. “This is a little bonus for him. It had been paid for, but this was a rushed agreement and a little extra for his time. Now go!’ I tell her after I help her mount the mare.

After getting Elphaba on her way I went as quickly as I could towards the main gate. I wasn't sure how I was going to do it, but I had a rather shifty character to try and find. The problem was I had no idea what the carriage looked like, let alone the person within it. All I knew is they were up to something, and whatever it was I thoroughly believed that they were out to eliminate Glinda or Elphaba.

I got to the gate just in time to see a rather fancy carriage enter and head towards the the area where all the rest if the carriages were waiting. I knew I had to catch up to the driver and stop them.

(Elphaba's POV)

I race through the dark hoping that he will still be at the meeting place. I am already late and know he won't be pleased, but I can't back out now.

After riding hard for awhile I see a figure near the bridge up ahead. As I get closer they turn to look at me. “You're late.”

“I realize that, and I'm sorry. I ran into an unexpected delay.” I tell him. “I brought something extra to compensate, hopefully, for the delay in arriving.” I hold out the coin purse. “Now if it isn't a bother I will take-”

“Don't be so hasty!” He cuts me off opening the coin purse and dumping some in his hand. He inspects them in the dim moonlight and nods. “Appears to be a sufficient amount.” He tucks the coin purse into his coat pocket and then takes out a small package. “It's in here. Now I must leave. I have other appointments.” He says and turn leaving quickly.

As he leaves I open the package and grin when I see it is that exactly what I wanted. Jake had said he was good, and I had had my doubts, but now I can see I had nothing to worry about, and so I mount up and turn the horse and start racing back toward the way came from. I can only hope I get there on time.
