I awake to the normal sound of my mother screaming.
"Get out of bed you lazy piece of trash!" She screams from the doorway. I groan and roll off of my bed, bumping my head against the wall of my small room. I walk to the bathroom, shower, and brush my teeth and hair.
I walk over to my closet to grab an oversized hoodie and my black skinny jeans. I head over to to Damain's (my brother) side of the room and gently wake him.
"Hey, Bub!" I say, softly shaking him.
"Archhhhh." he whines, grasping up to me. I lift him and set him on my bed, then grab a T-shirt and pair of shorts from the dresser. I get him ready and carry him downstairs.
As I walk past the couch I see the usual, my dad passed out with a bottle in his hand. I go to the kitchen and set Damian down at the table. I grab our breakfast and I eat my cereal while I help Damian.
Once we're finished and Damian is cleaned up, I grab my backpack and house keys.
I walk down the alley and onto the sidewalk. I have Damian in one hand and pepper spray in the other, this was a dangerous part of town.
We head to my best friend, Oakleigh's house. Once I reach her house, I set Damian down and he runs to Oakileigh's mom, Vanessa. He stays here during the day because he can't stay at my house. Vanessa works from home so she says it's not a big deal for her.
Oakleigh and I walk out of the house and out to her car. On the drive to school, we talk about the weekend. Once we reach the school, we both take deep breaths and walk towards the the door. As we walk, I see a large bus. I didn't know there was a field trip today. I walk into school and head to my locker.
"Hey, Archer!" I hear my bully, Bo yell in a teasing voice. I ignore him and continue to walk towards my locker.
"What's wrong? Can't face another beating separate from your daddy." He mocks me as I clench my fists and continue to look ahead. I see five older boys whispering and looking in my direction. I reach my locker and grab the items I need for my first class, English with Mr. Franklin. I sigh and sit down, this is going to be a long day.
