At the end of the day, I walk down to Mr. Murry's office and he tells me to take a seat in front of his desk.
"Ms. Crandall, we have been getting letters from our teachers listing some of the things students are saying and doing towards you. Are you aware of these things?" Mr. Murry questions. I glance at the boys and they give me pitied looks. I look down at my feet and nod.
"'Just wait for what your dad will do', 'go home to your father, he'll give you what you deserve.' Archer, should we be concerned? Is your father a threat?" I look up at him wide eyed.
"N-no he- Umm.... may I be excused?" I say, stumbling over my words. He sighs but I know he gives in easily. (Editors note: Cause this principal flipping sucks.)
"Yes ma'am, but these boys must go home with you." I stare at him in shock.
"No! I'm fine, really!" I say, my words coming out rushed.
"Ms. Crandall, it is not a choice." Mr. Murry says, I begin to shake and panic. I look at the boys wide eyed.
"Please sir.." I beg, looking at him.
"I'm sorry, my mind is made up." I slowly get up, sighing lowly.
"I have to pick up my brother first." I say quietly, trying not to panic. I head out the door, the boys on my tail. I see Oakleigh around the corner, she runs to me. She looks at me, equally scared.
"Can we go pick up Damian please." I say, my voice cracking at the end. My hands are shaking.
Once we get to Oakleigh's house, I find Damian playing with building blocks on the floor.
"Arch!" Damian yells when I walk into the house. He reaches up and grasps the air, wanting to be held. I pick him up.
"Vanessa!" I yell leaving the boys and walking to her office.
"What's up sweetheart." she asks, peering up from her desk.
"I'm scared. Mr. Murry suspects what my parents are doing and sent home these boys with me." I say, my voice shaking. I start to break down, handing her Damian. I slide down the wall letting out a whimper while trying to hold sobs back.
"Deep breaths, I'm going to get your medicine." She says calmly, walking out of the room.
