"You need to get more sleep," one said to the other.
"But I don't want to!" the other replied. "Staying up gives me time to do whatever I want before I have to turn around; face my problems in this horrible reality!"
"But if you sleep more, you can forget about your problems for a while. Sleeping will also increase happiness and productivity, so maybe...if you sleep more, you can overcome your problems!"
"Really? Would that really work?"
"...Yes! Go to bed, now."
"Okay then. I'll trust you."
And so they fell asleep. The other just waited patiently for them to wake up and give their feedback. So, they would wait. Perfectly still. Ever so patient.
The one didn't know if the other was a light or heavy sleeper since they never slept at all—so, they continued to wait there silently.
They waited.
They waited.
And waited some more.
'They must be sleeping well,' the one who was still awake thought optimistically.
And so they waited some more.
More waiting.
Even more waiting.
...
They never woke up again.
