"Sis, can I get the chocolate ice-cream?" Anya asked giving me her puppy face.
"No little baby, you already had one" I punched her cheeks. She rubbed the place where I pinched her, still giving me the puppy face.
"But I had black currant. Now I want chocolate" she whined.
"Then have a bit from his" I pointed at Aarav, her twin brother. They are my siblings, seven years younger. They are fifteen years old but still act like five. That makes me overprotective over them.
"No, I don't want to eat his. Buy me a new one" she said, pointing at Aarav's ice-cream in disgust. He had the ice-cream spread all over his mouth and some even in his cheeks. Not interested in our bantering, he continued eating his ice-cream with utmost adoration in his eyes. I chuckled.
"You'll get cold little baby, I won't let that happen. Finish this fast and let's get going" I said strictly. She nodded sadly and went back to eating her ice-cream.
"This is so delicious" she moaned at the taste. I smiled and just then my phone went off. I walked away from my siblings to the corner to attend the call.
"Heyy" I said in a cheery tone and Yamini chuckled. She's my best friend apart from Lekha.
"Why are you always this energetic? Doesn't your battery ever drain out?" She asked.
"Nope" I chuckled.
"So what's up?"
"Let's meet up, I have some doubts. Lekha and I are planning to come over to your place tomorrow morning" she said. Yes, our final semester exams are around a month. There's campus interview too coming up soon, though the date hasn't been fixed. We'll have to prepare for both.
"Sure, but make sure you bring aunty's cookies" I said.
"Idiot" she hung up the phone.
I turned around and went back to the bench to see my siblings fighting.
"No, I want a bite" Anya was trying to reach for the remaining ice-cream of Aarav's.
"But you didn't want it right?"
"No, I want it. Give it to me" she said.
"No, it's mine. You already had yours without giving me a scoop" he complained.
"You didn't ask for it. Now I'm asking, so you have to give it to me" she said, stomping her feet to the ground. Getting off her seat, she pounced on him, trying to reach it. I walked to them and pulled Anya away.
"Wait guys, what's wrong?"
"Sis, I want it" she stomped her feet hard on the ground.
"But he's..."
"No, I want it" she glared at me. She's so stubborn.
"Here" I wasn't surprised to see Aarav giving it to her. He's always very sweet and nice while Anya is very adamant. I love them equally though. They both are unique in their own way. She squealed and ate it quickly.
"I love you so much" she kissed his cheeks and he ruffled her hair. I smiled.
"Let's get going, it's already nine" they nodded and we walked to the car.
Crossing the road, I was holding their hands. I feel very protective whenever I'm with them. It's like they are the most fragile piece on earth and I have to protect them.
"Sis, look there" I saw Anya pointing at a candy shop opposite the road.
"Baby, we are just getting there" I said but ignoring my words, she loosened herself from my hold and started running.
"Anya" I shouted. She turned back to look at me. She was standing at the midway, already crossing the road half way.
"Sis, come fa.."
My eyes widened to see a car crashing her down. She wasn't able to complete her sentence when a car hit my baby sister by the side and went ahead to hit the pole.
Omg!!
"Anya" Aarav and I ran to her. She was laying on the floor with blood running out of the cut in her forehead and her arms and legs. Anger sprung up in my system. Who the hell drives a car in the middle of two roads, on the payment?!
Tears brimmed my eyes when I saw my sister lying unconscious with blood all around. My heart whimpered seeing her in this state. Suddenly a fear rushed in my heart. What if something happens to her?
I leaned down to her and shook her. I caressed her cheeks, patting it lightly.
"Anya, baby! Anya, look at me. Look here, are you alright? Baby, wake up" I was continuously holding her in my arms while Aarav was shaking her to wake her up. Soon crowd gathered around us. My sister still didn't open her eyes and that made me very restless.
"Sis, open your eyes. Look at me" Aarav was holding her hands in his right hand, patting her cheeks with his left. Tears were flowing down his cheeks too.
I rushed to the car which knocked my sister down. The car knocked my sister down through a side and hit the pole.
Seeing a drunk man, I found the rage in me burning. People around were accusing him. Pushing through the crowd, I went to him and connected my right hand on his left cheek. The crowd gasped looking at the tight slap. He seemed to be coming back to senses as he held his cheek. Without glancing him for the second time, I stroamed out of the place. Going to my sister, I took her in my lap.
"We have to take her to the hospital. Get the cab" Someone from the crowd said.
"There's a cab, please take her" I nodded and got my sister to the cab with a few people's help. Aarav was sitting in the passenger seat while I sat at the behind, resting Anya's head on my lap. I was constantly patting her and sprinkled water on her face but she remained motionless. With every passing second, the fear inside me grew thousand times more. Blood was dripping from her head and she was still unconscious.
No! I won't let anything happen to my sister!
