DAY 5

Story: To the Stars
Pairing: Jacob Henley/Lauren Seville

~

Jacob came back to his apartment late at night from taking extra classes and is met with a space that is too empty. Lauren visited him over the weekend but she already went back to Westbrooke that morning, taking along the last bit of happiness he is able to feel.

He stumbled to his bedroom, exhaustion seeping into his bones. He didn't need to take additional units on theoretical physics but ever since the death of his mother, he felt he needed to spend every minute of his day doing something. Anything to distract him from his grief.

Jacob flicked on the lights and could almost see Lauren through the open door of his small bathroom. At this time of night, she'd already be getting ready for bed, putting on some green goop on her face. Cucumber mask, she had answered when he asked her what it was, to help soothe the tiredness from under her eyes.

He personally didn't think she needed it but that's because he already thought she's the most beautiful woman in the world anyway.

Lauren would ask how his classes went and he'd tell her that it was fine as he'd plant a kiss on her temple before he'd step into the shower for a quick rinse. He would listen to her talk about she had been up to while he was away. It was only for two to three hours but he still liked to listen on what she did no matter how uneventful it was.

When he'd finish up in the shower, she'd be sitting on the bed in her cupcake pajamas putting lotion all over her arms as the scent of vanilla filled the room. He would dress up for bed, always a white t-shirt and blue boxer shorts. He had seven identical pieces of each, one for every day of the week, all of them folded neatly at the first drawer of his dresser. He was very particular about how his clothes are folded and stored, not even wanting Lauren's clothes to be mixed with his. She didn't mind this and just stayed away from his things.

They'd climb under the covers together, take her laptop and watch a movie. However they never finish one because Lauren falls asleep halfway even if she had sworn that she'd finish it this time. Jacob would quietly put the laptop away, grab a book from his nightstand and read for a couple of minutes until his eyes grow heavy.

He'd put the book down and would lay down beside her. He held her close in his arms as he drifted off the sleep.

But she wasn't there.

Her tube of cucumber mask left unopened on his bathroom sink, her lotions lay untouched. Her cupcake pajamas and a few pieces of her clothes laid folded and unused.

It was just him with emptiness and silence.

Jacob missed her most in moments like these. In the simple quiet moments when they are able to savor each other's presence.

Sighing, he stepped in the shower then dressed for bed. He opened his laptop, watched the first movie recommended on Netflix and stopped it halfway. Taking a book from his night stand, he started to read until his eyes grew heavy. He laid down on his bed and drifted off the sleep, wishing that she was there for him to hold.
