Chapter: Twenty-five

POV: Kankri

I was so glad to finally be in the apartment I call home again. I smell burnt paper as soon as I get in.

"Cr9nus, wh9 has used the fireplace recently?"
"Meenah has used it, along wvith Damara."
"Why w9uld they use 9ur fireplace?"
"They burned all my drawvings."
"Are y9u kidding me?!"
"No."

Cronus shuts down immediately. I don't press the subject anymore, it might be triggering.

After more time has passed, I hear the door open. How many people have a key to this place?!

I walk out of the kitchen, and see that Karkat has returned.

"HEY KANKRI."
"Hey Karkat. Where have y9u 6een?"

"IN THE HOSPITAL."
"Why in c9d's name were y9u in the h9spital?!"
"MITUNA IS IN THERE."
"The br9ther 9f S9llux?"
"EXACTLY!"

Karkat leaves to the room he claimed and I finish doing the dishes. I walk over to a sulking Cronus and sit down beside him, to give him a hug. Cronus pulls me into his arms and we sit like that for at least 5 minutes.

"Kanni, wve havwe to leavwe this apartment soon. Wve didn't keep track of the days, meaning the twvo months are almost ovwer."
"The tw9 m9nts are alm9st d9ne already? It felt like they were tw9 weeks!"
"I knowv. That means you'll be homeless soon, right?"

"Y9u remem6er the c9nversati9n we had with the Disciple right? I can stay at her place f9r a while."

"I totally forgot. I'm sorry for my ignorance."
"It's fine really. I think I'll call her in a bit."

We sit in a hug for a bit longer, not wanting to let go. This is what I'll miss most when I'm out of this place. But I don't think Cronus will mind that I'm gone soon. I mean, why would he bring it up in the first place? Is he that excited that I will be gone soon?

I pull out the hug, which causes Cronus to lay down, and within seconds I hear him snore. He was exhausted.

I grab my phone and call the Disciple.

"Hell9 m9m, I called f9r y9ur 9ffer t9 stay at y9ur h9me when needed."
"..."
"Yes, I am aware that I call at a sh9rt n9tice. What I wanted t9 kn9w was if I c9uld stay starting next week."
"..."
"Y9u can't. I see. Well, that's a shame. I'll speak y9u later ma'am."
"..."

"Yes, hug y9ur daughters f9r me please."
"..."
"Bye."

I sigh. She can't give me a place to stay because Nepeta will finish school around then. It's a shame, but what can I do about it. She has to take care of her kids. I decide to call the Dolorosa.

"Hell9 miss Maryam."
"..."
"With Kankri."
"..."
"I wanted t9 kn9w if the 9ffer 9f me staying at y9ur place is still valid?"

"..."
"Y9u can't? Well, that's unf9rtunate. What's her name?"
"..."
"I wish y9u all a nice summer6reak. Bye."
"..."

So Kanaya has a girlfriend now. That sucks for me. I walk back to the couch, and let myself fall into it. I cry softly. Cronus starts waking up and I immediately start wiping away my tears.

"Kanni, wvhat's wvrong?"
"I d9n't have a place t9 stay when we get kicked 9ut and I'll have t9 live 9n the streets."
"Wvhy? You could sleep at the Disciples' place right?"
"She declined. I already called her. She has t9 take care 9f Nepeta."
"Howv about the Dolorosa?"
"She has the new girlfriend 9f Kanaya in her h9use for multiple weeks."
"So wvhat are you going to do nowv?"
"I d9n't kn9w. I have n9where t9 g9 t9."
"You could go to your old home..."
"ARE Y9U 9UT 9F Y9UR MIND?!"
"Sorry, forget I said anything!"

I run out of the door once more. I need to find a place to stay, and quickly. I have less than a week to move out. I have a last resort kind of option... I'll text Kurloz.
