Chad’s POV

My house felt quiet when Nick and Evelyn weren’t here. Too quiet.

Lana was supposed to bring them both over yesterday after we’d agreed I would have them on the weekends. Only she didn’t show which was also a good thing.

I hadn’t told her that I was getting married and when she does find out she will…... well I don’t know what she will do.

Not hearing anything from her means that she still doesn’t know.

I don’t want to get married to Nikki but it’s not like I have a choice. It’s not every day that your ex just comes up to your front door, tells you she’s pregnant and that Lana has kicked her out of the pack.

Yes, I said it. She’s pregnant. Lana might have kicked her out but I make the final decision.

Ciara was pissed that I dumped her but what could she do, I am the Alpha.

Taking a deep breath, I walked over to the window and just stood there, looking at the wolves assigned to protect me. Not that I needed protection.

“Chad, dear I came as soon as I could.”

Before I could even turn around my mother hugged me from behind.

“Why what happened?” I asked, unfolding her arms from around me.

She was grinning from ear to ear.

“I’m going to have another cutie call me granny, what else could it be?”

I smiled. There is nothing more that my mother would ever want.

“Have you and Lana thought about names yet?” She said pulling me over to sit on the couch.

I sat down and then realised what she had said.

Looks like dad hadn’t told her the whole thing.

“Err….mum I’m not having a baby with Lana.” I said a little uncomfortably.

Her face fell as she started to stand up.

She stood there for a few seconds then finally said, “Then you should get rid of it immediately.”

It was my turn to stand up, “What did you say?”

I started shaking uncontrollably. How dare she, my own mother tell me to do that.

She stood tall and looked right into my eyes, clearly not afraid.

“Just when I thought you would do the right thing and mark your mate…..you go and do something like this that could mean the end for us.”

“It won’t come down to that. Having that baby means having control. Nikki’s father is a part of the council if we have a man in the council that could mean every-“

“You knocked up, Nikki?” Her expression went from surprised to outrage.

“You didn’t let me finish. When her dad passes down his position to her, she could slowly work her way up to Queen. Do you know what that means? I could be King alongside her.”

I begged her with my eyes to understand this from my point of view.

Being King could change everything.

“You’re telling me that you will mark, Nikki?”

I nodded.

“To have power, right?”
