"Patton's here."
"Oh no."
"And he brought Roman."
"Oh, noooo..."
The two looked out Logan's bedroom window at their soulmates outside, waiting for them to come out. The two debated their options together, without looking away from the pair.
"What if we just don't go?" Virgil suggested. "They'd probably knock again. Then my mom would come upstairs and get mad." Logan responded.
"What if we ask my mom to tell them we can't come out? We can say we're working on homework." Logan offered. "She won't lie for us, and she knows we're not doing anything up here." said Virgil.
They stood there, watching the two have conversation.. laugh with each other. They both sigh in unison, deciding that they'd have to go down. Logan walked out the room first, with Virgil following. Thomas asked to tag along, and as Logan opened his mouth to say 'No, I would like to spend time with my friends without you, for a change.', his mother would shout, telling Logan to bring his younger brother along.
Leaving out the front door, Patton smiled brightly at the trio. "Hey guys!" He said, his voice cheery as usual. "Roman said Virgil seemed upset earlier, and he wasn't at his house, soo... we came here!" Virgil, suddenly the center of attention, spoke up with, "Ah, yeah, I'm alright, I just remembered I left something important here."
A lame excuse, but it worked. Roman quickly greeted Thomas, and Thomas started speaking to the two, and before anyone knew it they were all at the park. They'd spend the entire day there, Virgil, admiring the way Roman moved and spoke. Something he'd never done before, but seemed different now that it was in color. He made a note to ask what that bright color was Roman wore, because he's pretty sure it's his favorite. He fought any laughter that came, making sure he didn't let Roman hear him laugh until the moment was just right.
Logan did the same, but much less obviously. He didn't laugh much as it was, and Virgil was the only one who had ever heard him give a genuine, happy laugh. He and Virgil had ruled each other out as soulmates long ago. However, when Patton had made a pun related to mathematics, Logan found himself giving a hearty, genuine laugh.
"Okay, Logie, a man walks into a mathematics-themed bakery, right?"
"Alright."
"And they ask him, 'Do you want some Pi?'" Logan nods, showing he's still listening. "The man says yes, only to realize they weren't referencing the dessert as they start speaking, '3.14158..'" Logan stopped in his tracks, a faint grin on his features. A soft snicker, evidence of him trying to hide it- before he burst out, laughing louder than he'd like to admit.
Virgil stopped when Logan was fighting the laughter, but Patton didn't stop until it was actually out. His entire world had changed before him. He immediately whipped around, tackling the taller male to the ground with a squeal. Roman turned around at the noise, processing what must have just happened and covering his mouth in awe. Thomas chuckled with an, "about time." added on the end once everything was over.
They all went home that night. Thomas went to bed after re-watching his favorite television show for the thousandth time. Patton and Logan didn't sleep much, texting each other well into the early hours of the night. Virgil usually stayed up late as it was, but he still slept before his friends, dreaming of Roman. Lastly, Roman tried to sleep early, but was kept up as he was plagued with the fear he'd never know who his soulmate was. Tears filled his eyes soon after, and he'd fall asleep crying.
