Chapter 8: Going to the Safe House
"Ali?" the man repeated.
"Y-yes?"
My lamp turned on and an unfamiliar man was standing in front of me. He was about forty, had a large figure, black hair...red eyes? That was strange. Who has red eyes?
"I'm commander Sedgwick. You are in serious danger. We need to get you to the safe house, immediately. Please follow me."
"Will Derrick and Morgan be joining us? Or Jake."
I know I only met the guy a few hours ago but I do care about him. I don't want him to get hurt. I wouldn't be able to forgive myself for not helping him. "I'm not sure, ma'am. All I was assigned was to take you there."
"Oh. Okay." I frowned.
I got out of bed and put on a sweater and slipped on flip flops. I followed the man down an unfamiliar trail. It was dark outside so I tripped over branches. I could tell we were heading toward the woods. When we got to the gate, Commander Sedgwick put in the code and we walked deeper into the woods. The howling of the wind made chills go up my spine. "So, Commander Sedgwick, where are we going?" I asked.
"First of all call me Brad or Bradley. Secondly, I told you to the safe house."
I raised an eyebrow. "In the middle of the woods?"
"No. You'll see."
Those words made me worried. Those words repeated in my head through the whole walk in the woods. "No. You'll see." See what? Where are we going? This started to make suspicious.
"So...Bradley... how long have you been in the organization for?"
"Eleven years in May. It feels like training was just yesterday."
I chuckled. "Do you have a family?"
"Yah. A wife and baby girl back home."
"What's your wife and daughters name?" I questioned.
"My wife's name in Lorelei. And our daughter is Lucy. She'll be eight months tomorrow." he replied with a smile. You could tell by the way his face lit up like a lightbulb that he loved them. It was cute.
We walked for about a half hour. Finally, I found a large pickup truck. Bradley opened the passenger door. I hesitated. Should I leave this place? Yes, I trust Bradley. I got in the truck.
He got in the drivers seat and drove out if the woods. The woods was dark but I could see all around us were trees. We hit a bump and I noticed our surroundings were changing. We were now on a highway. I hadn't seen any cars around. That's weird. "Where are we? Where are we going."
"I told you. To the safe house."
"Tell me the truth Bradley. Where are you taking me." No response. "We aren't going to the safe house, are we?" No response. "Who are you Bradley Sedgwick?" No response.
