"Smile my dear little butterfly,
Fly freely like a bird,
Catch the dreams you were dreaming of,
Watch the way the waves crashed happily,
And of all,
Make sure you smile even on your last breathe."
The scent of sunshine mixed with sea water was clear in his nostrils. His brain was screaming for more rest, his muscles aching as he rolled towards the left breathing in the scent of water. Jax let a soft moan escaped his lips, his lips parted as he felt he familiar sting on his lips. Refusing to open his eyes, Jax made a soft clicking sound, his tongue moved to wet his lips. From his ears, Jax caught the sound of melodious voices echoing through his ears. It felt way too familiar to him. Like a drug, the song dragged him deeper into his own dreams as he curled up into a ball to the side, his arms wrapping around himself rocking gently on the ground as he dug his sneakers in between the sand.
Jax heard the soft, calming voice calling him to wake up. The image of her sister, the burning buildings, the humans and the familiar blue eyes felt like a dream to him. He mumbled his sister's name softly followed by Alex's. It was then he snapped himself up jumping up from the ground when he felt the sting at the corner of his neck. Jax looked around the place before he stumbled back down on the ground. He was on a vast land. His hair was already dry from the rays of sunlight basking down from Heavens above. Jax squinted his eyes as he looked around finding himself in the middle of an unknown land. Buildings were scattered around him. He wasn't familiar with the surroundings anymore. He stepped over a rock looking around. He was far from the city he was in before.
"No. It was real. Everything was real. All was real!" He cried out, his arms tightened around his own shoulders as he squatted down on the ground wrapping himself tightly with his own arms.
Tears slipped out from the corner of his eyes as it fell onto the ground only to evaporate into the air the next second. He let a sob escaped his lips as he picked himself up from the ground. His hair hung messily around him, the length was longer than before. He would have trimmed it with a knife before this, but now, he had lost all hope on even searching for a knife. His heart was heavy with not just grieve but wonders of what plans the Heavens had for him. Noticing a rock nearby, Jax began to kick on it sending it flying out of his sight. He breathed in heavily at the pain on his throat, the urge for water. Looking around, he spotted nothing wet and made his way out of the place. He felt a sting on his head and reached up to feel it. All he saw was blood and chuckled on his own.
"I am bleeding, and I am not dead." He chuckled, tears pouring out of his eyes as he looked up at the sun which was shining down brightly as if it had won the battle. He chuckled, he wailed, he cried and screamed at the pain internally and physically.
Jax walked around the place, heading west as what Alex had told him earlier before the horrid incident. He managed to salvage a bottle of water, a scarf and also a knife which was broken into half. Tying the scar around his wound, Jax continued his journey to the west only surviving by little sips of water. The journey wasn't far, his gut told him but with the lack of food and days of unconsciousness, Jax felt like he was slowly falling into another deep sleep. Arranging his steps, Jax's brown eyes spotted a building shaped like a dam, the huge walls surrounding it. His brown eyes lit up. This could be it. Finally, someone human. – He personally thought.
Wasting no more time, Jax ran all the way there. He sprinted towards the place which would probably be almost five hundred meters away from where he was. He held close to the bottle, his legs ran as fast as he could till the sight of the big building came to his eyes. It was circle and high. There were towers around it, yet something felt not right. The silence was unbearable. Jax quickened his pace there, his sneakers thumping onto the ground ignoring the heat burning into his feet as the friction began to wear out the patterns on the sole. Jax raced towards the door pushing it open.
Silence. There was only silence. Jax's observant brown eyes looked around as he caught sight of a few dead bodies around which were drying up. He covered his mouth. He wasn't expected this place to be so silent. Yet, here he is but there was not a single living being around. Jax strode deeper into the building noticing a door with a sign of 'Open' hanging on it. He pushed it open reaching towards the security building. The wires were dangling around, the chairs were damp without sunlight to dry it up and the sound of whirring machine echoed at the other corner. Jax headed towards a button by the radio pressing onto it.
"I repeat. Stay indoors. The helicopters are down. We cannot..."
The voice was transformed into a buzzing sound, followed by a crash and a loud thunderstorm. Jax did not need to know what happened after next. He walked out coming in sight with the silent building. Knowing that there would be no one around, he took a stroll around the place. There would be some place to store food here. Jax arranged behind the security building and a ladder going downwards come insight. There were no one there. He looked around the dried building before climbing down the stairs coming face to face with a huge metal door with a large lock. Jax looked around breaking the glass with a rock before he took the axe out cutting the lock into half. Using the remaining energy left, he pushed the door opened. There were boxes and boxes of water and biscuits, fruits and even vegetables. Jax chuckled walking into it with the axe in his arms.
There was no one around the building. Soft humming sound echoed through the place. Jax sat down in the corner of the building with a packet of biscuit and a bottle of mineral water in his palms, his brown eyes looked out from the nearby window examining the sunrays.
"Fate and destiny had always had special plans for each of us." Alex's voice echoed in his mind.
"Next time, be careful with what you wished for, Jaxton Jones."
