The next day, I walked through the corridor towards my locker. A gaggle of gossiping teens stood not far from my path and their conversation topic spiked my interest.

"I heard she purposely drugged her." one sneered, trying her hardest to whisper.

"Yeah, apparently her boyfriend cheated on her with Hanna! And then she went crazy and tried to kill Yaz!" another announced, the other four gasping and looking my way.

Turning on my heel, I stared each of them down until their smirks became grimaces. "Got something to say?" I asked, hands on hips.

"Don't say anything." one said through gritted teeth, "You'll be her next target."

"I swear to-" I began, taking a deep breath and stepping backwards.

This was too much for me to handle. I thought I'd done a good thing but clearly everyone else thought differently. It amazed me that news travelled that fast, but then again when the topic was about the moody, secretive girl that hated everyone, of course they'd be talking about me.

Tears filling my eyes, I rushed away until the sound of laughter got quieter and quieter. My locker could wait. Hell, school could wait at this point.

Turning the corner, I bumped into a firm chest. The familiarity struck me, but when I looked up and saw Danny, his eyes were filled with anger.

"Are they true?" he asked, ignoring the sadness in my eyes. I held his gaze, completely frozen with pain and confusion. "Tell me. Are the rumours true?"

"That I tried to kill my friend? That I purposely fed her drugs? What do you think?!" I asked, pushing against him. He held onto my arms with great strength, not letting me move.

"Mae, I'm not playing around. Is it true?" he questioned. The sudden change in his bright and fun personality caught me off guard, this was a side to Danny I'd never seen before.

"Of course it's not true. How could you of all people think that about me?" I cried, tears streaming down my face. "Why are you being like this?"

"Me of all people? You said it yourself, Mae. I don't really know you very well. Do I?" he snapped, sarcastically. He used my own words against me.

When my silence filled the air around us both, he shuffled awkwardly before letting go of me and stepping back. "Whatever. Your life is not my business."

And just like that, he walked away leaving me with a thousand questions and a million things to tell him.

It was that moment in which I realised that I'd trusted Danny and he'd broken that trust.

Perhaps detention wasn't going to be so great after all.

"You heard all this?" asked Lexi, slamming her locker shut.

I'd decided to stick around at school. Skipping another day was not on my radar and knowing that Danny was somewhere here gave me something to hold onto. I needed to talk to him and now that I was calmer, I could give him a piece of my mind.
