Prologue
She ran as fast as she could. Branches smacked against her face and body all the while fear was present in her eyes. Adrenaline coursed through her veins and her feet slapped the ground echoing throughout the forest. The girl's breath came out in thick and heavy puffs. Her once beautiful dress was in ruins. In the distance, a howl of a hunting dog came hauntingly to her ears. She couldn't stop herself from looking back in fear and push her exhausted legs faster.
The hunters chased the girl in the torn and ragged dress for what felt like forever. Their dogs had her scent in their noses, the dark clothed hunters dodged the trees, and the swift slick dogs moved swiftly across the ground. Only two things could be heard in the forest that day: the heavy breathing of the hunters and dogs and the pounding of their feet upon the leaf covered ground. The chase was underway and wouldn't end for hours more.
All were fatigued by time the chase was coming to an end and the girl was one with the wind moving swiftly away from the men of evil. Her family had warned her but she hadn't listened. Why had she not just listened?
She was one of the Fallen, called that because her race had fallen into the shadows. Most of her people had sharp and narrow features with skin darken from time in the sun and long blond hair, but she wasn't most. She had short vibrant black with blue tipped hair of which she was born, it never grew past her shoulders. Now, it was cut short to a spiked tip. Her skin was as pale as the moon at its fullest time above her brow a small crescent moon was placed hidden unless you looked this had caused her name to be Luna.
The princess of her people born and raised in the shadows she had always been a daring, brave, and defiant girl. While her people wore bright colors she only wore simple whites and blacks. She learned to fight young like most of her people and was one of the best in her class. Fierce and powerful she was and now she was running in fear.
Her friends were dead and only she was left. The people of the shadows were brought to the light and death rained. The saddest part besides losing her friends was that it was her idea to come to the human world. They were coming here for on a hunting trip and explore mission to learn if the humans had grown to accept differences while getting meat for their clan. They had changed still hunting her kind as Luna now had learned.
As she ran now for her life tears stung her bright eyes as she remembered why she was running. Reaching a sharp cliff with a flowing river below she could feel the dark dog's hot breath on her heels knowing the hunters surely not far behind so she jumped. Her heels left the ground as wings came from her back they were black with vibrant blue tips. Arrows were shot as the hunters reached the edge. All nearly missed her, but one got stuck in the muscle of her wing falling she let a scream fall from her lips and fall to what could be assumed to be her death. Much like a light the hunters thought her to be sniffed out.
