BONDING, TROUBLE & THE BARATIE

East Blue Saga - Baratie Arc - Episode 19 - 20

Dakota's POV:

It's been a few days since we left Gecko Island. We've been sailing further away.

Obviously.

I'm not entirely sure where we're heading as Nami is in charge, though I have a feeling the Going Merry is taking us to where we need to go.

I feel pretty welcome on the ship. I share a room with Nami, as we're the only girls aboard the Going Merry, while Usopp, Luffy, and Zoro sleep in the cabin next door in hammocks.

At the moment, everyone is doing their own thing on the small ship: Zoro is napping again, Nami is reading over maps, Usopp is staring out into the ocean, making up things in his own little world, and Luffy is goofing off. While I'm playing with my red cards. I like it here, at the moment it's peaceful.

I'm wearing a yellow bikini top and denim shorts, showing off my rose-tattooed right shoulder and barely hiding the compass tattoo on my ribcage. I got them a few years back as a tribute to my mother and brother, as the roses were her favourite. I also wear my favourite black trilby hat and red, yellow, blue, and white beaded bracelets on my left arm that symbolise my brothers and mine's relationship and bond.

I start playing solitaire while Usopp begins talking to himself. "Foolish pirates...you still dare to attack the Going Merry knowing it's led by the great Captain Usopp?!" He jumps beside me, swinging the wooden stick he brought from below Usopp found earlier; the slight breeze he creates while swinging is beginning to ruin my game! "A violent battle ensues!"

"I swear, Usopp, you swing that stick around one more time, I will drown you in the ocean!" I growl, making the long-nosed teen squeak and drop the stick with a clang, turning pale. My yelling seems to wake Zoro as he lets out a loud yawn.

"Hey, can't you guys... pay some attention to people?" He mutters, looking upset.

"IT'S DONE!" Luffy exclaims, drawing everyone's attention and startling the already pale Usopp as our Captain jumps up behind him, holding a square piece of black cloth. Luffy turns around, showing the black fabric with the most horrifying pirate flag attempt I have ever seen, but he just smiles, seeming pleased with himself. "Look, it's our pirate flag! After Usopp and Sis joined us, we now have five people. So we need our own mark." The rest of us look at our so-called pirate mark with mixed feelings, all bad.

"That is... our mark?" Zoro questions, looking at Luffy, who grins broadly, not seeming fazed by the terrible attempt.

"What do you think? Nice isn't it?" Luffy asks us, still giving us all a big grin.

"A pirate's flag is a symbol of death and terror," he replies, trying to explain the meaning of a pirate flag.

"I do feel the terror, but it's the terror of your talent," Nami argues; I know it won't hurt Luffy's feelings, but I don't like what she said, but still, she isn't wrong.
