It was 22.00 on Friday night and Scarlett couldn't believe how much work she had. Initially, she hadn't been in the habit of bringing work home but that had proved to be impossible after a while. Plus, she didn't have a social life, working seemed to be what she could do most of the time. All the time, Scarlett corrected with a head shake as she took out her reading glasses to better scheme through the Daniel Hemsworth case.
A case that had seemed not so complicated before but now, the model involved was claiming she'd been sexually assaulted by her client - could it get any muddier than that?
And, why did men always get entangled with women like the model Daniel Hemsworth had slept with! Why was it that men always wanted more even when they had what they needed? Because, Daniel had told her he had a girlfriend for Godsake! Why the hell had he cheated on her?
An interesting question, a very interesting question. Perhaps one her late father and ex-boyfriend, Scott the scumbag ought to answer because if anyone knew something about cheating, then it would be those two!
Seated at her kitchen table in grey sweatpants and a dark blue tank top, eating her favourite food - pizza, Scarlett gritted her teeth in anger at how her father had mercilessly and cold-heartedly left her mother at the time when she needed him the most- to marry some Russian socialite! And no, it hadn't been just a story from her mother, Scarlett had confirmed it by confronting the bastard herself. He had hardly remembered her mother!
"Argghh!" she pushed the papers away and stood up to walk to the large kitchen window. Even now, years after her father had died, it still upset her so terribly how he had simply walked away. And how much her mother had loved the bastard even after that injustice. For years...
She'd defended him, about how young he'd been and unprepared to look after a child.
If it hadn't been for her amazing grandparents, Scarlett wasn't sure her mother and herself would have come so far.
And, what was it about the day that made her think back to those times, those times when her mother would cry every time she watched TV. Scarlett hadn't known they'd been some entertainment news that featured her father and his wealthy wife and his blockbuster movies!
She hadn't known because her mother hadn't told her yet.
Ring Ring!
Scarlett turned to the source of the ring - it was her phone. Now, where had she put it, she wondered, walking to the living room and looking around until she saw it on top of her bookshelf. She liked it being away from her because honestly, it irritated her when it rang after work. Especially on Fridays.
Shit! It was her mom! She'd completely forgotten to call her back! Something that had never happened!
Why today? OK, she knew the answer to that. She just wasn't going to acknowledge it just then because it would take her into even deeper thoughts than the ones she had been having before. Best she pretend Dante Marcellus Valenti wasn't the reason for her forgetfulness.
"Hey, mom! How's it going over at grandma's?" she asked, walking to the kitchen to pick another slice of pizza. Heaven! Good thing she'd asked her mom to go over to her grandma's house in Cheshire county to keep her company, she didn't know how she could have slept at night knowing her grandma was alone and about to lose her house. Ok, not lose... That was being sorted out the next day- his excellency had decreed.
''Amazing my dear, if only pops were here! Good thing Jack was more than happy to come with me- I don't know what I would have done because I would have missed him too much!'' the sweet natured Nancy Wickham said, sounding quite content for the first time in such a long time - Jack Williams had turned out to be her mother's soulmate to Scarlett's very very big surprise and the even bigger surprise was that the man had never done anything to make Scarlett believe otherwise, he just simply loved her mother. Love... A feeling she'd once thought she felt in the hands of a certain moron called Scott!
