This is my 4th book because I don't think a tagged book counts, does it? I don't know but that isn't important.

Here's a little backstory,
You and your sister used to be faithfully mermaids to your colony until your sister found out about sirens and what they do and wanted to try it. You tagged along and tried it to, singing people to their death at the bottom of the ocean.

The more you did this, the more your hair turned dark eventually into jet black. The colony found out and saw the signs and chased you both into river opening and eventually into the depths of the lake you both now reside in, chaining you to the lake floor before leaving you both there, using magic to put an invisible wall at the start of the river to prevent you from going back.

After many years being stuck there for years you both became more corrupt, your sister more than you to the point her hair turned snow white.

But as soon as those chains broke, you knew all hell will break loose...
