Beep! Beep! Beep!
I jumped up startled from the noise. I began to calm down once I noticed that it was only the alarm that read 7:00am and quickly ceased the noise. I looked over at Jahseh who was moving around in his sleep but probably heard the beeping go off. It was time for me to get up and start my own Thanksgiving dinner with some of the people I loved. I knew that when I wake Jahseh up, he was going to be pissed because though he has an off today, he still had to get up an hour after he usually gets up for work. I gently shook him and he groaned.
"Mmm. What?"
"It's 7:02am and you have to get up." I yawned.
"For what?" He finally sat up scratching his dreads.
"Remember last night you promised to help me make the food?"
"You mean in which you volunteered me to do?" He said in a sleepy voice. "I don't even know how to cook Thanksgiving food."
"Jah, didn't you help my parents cook back home last year?"
"If you mean putting cranberry sauce on a plate and putting the mac in cheese in the over cooking then yes."
I sighed, "Ugh! I can help you as we cook."
"Why can't Leslie or Kolbey help you?"
"Jahseh, I'm not going to argue. They are my guest and we are cooking for them so unless you want to be the only one around here eating cereal for dinner, I suggest you get up and come help me." I said making myself clear and then heading to the bathroom to do my morning routine.
An hour later
"Jahseh, you have to roll the dough out and then sit it in a pan." I instructed Jahseh who seem to couldn't understand what I had said five minutes ago.
"Ugh, next year, we are so eating at your parents house." He said with an attitude.
I only laughed it off, "I texted your mom to let her know that she and Aiden was invited." I stated knowing he wouldn't care if his mother came or not. He didn't say anything back. Instead, he continued to roll the dough out for the homemade butter biscuits.
"Okay." He grabbed a pan getting ready to put the biscuits inside.
"That's all?"
"Why do you keep acting surprised when I don't show emotions towards my mother? It's getting on my nerves."
"Not about your mother but about Aiden. Aren't you happy to see him?"
He shrugged his shoulders, "Of course. That's my baby brother. I can't wait for you to meet him. He's a sucker for Spiderman." He smiled and it warmed my heart a little.
"Maybe later on, I can go to the store and pick up some Spiderman toys for him."
"He'd probably love you forever." He laughed.
I heard crying coming from the baby monitor that sat on the counter in the corner. We had one of those things in the living room, both bathrooms, both bedrooms and and kitchen. I quickly sat my kitchen utensils down about to go get her when Jahseh got a head start. I knew he only did that because he hated this cooking thing. "I hate you you!" I joked and yelled after him.
He came back minutes later and put her in the play pen. I got back to cooking and so did he.
Around 8:00am, Leslie came out of the room and into the kitchen grabbing a bottle of water out of the fridge while yawning. "Morning."
"Morning" me and Jahseh said at the same time.
She glanced around the kitchen and noticed the of the ham I was working on. "Dang y'all, if I would've know y'all I was cooking this early, I would have came and helped.
