august walked into the gate of the football field, mind wandering, head down, hopes low.

every year leia and i would come to football games together, excited to roam about and make fun of all the angry adults as they yelled at the coach. this year would mark the first time i'd go alone and the only reason i'm going is for the soul purpose of pleasing my parents, who pushed me to attend social gatherings. august thought, walking slowly to prevent running into anyone.

"hey!" exclaimed laurel, still sitting in the car making sure her little sister entered safely. "have fun." and with that, she drove off.

"i won't." august muttered under her breath.

she continued to walk slowly, her mind still ablaze with thoughts of leia and the so-called 'good old days'. eventually getting to a pathway, she had to choose which route to take, go straight to sit at the bleachers of the noisy football game, surrounded by people talking about sports, something she knew nothing about. or instead she could go around the fieldhouse to sit at leia & her's favorite place to sit and talk.

reminiscing of leia would be something to naturally do, but she began having second thoughts as she remembered the night leia went missing. it all started flooding back.

"hey, i'm gonna go get a hot dog, wanna come?" august inquired as she rose from the stairs.

"nah, i'm gonna see what's in that abandoned shed. hurry up and get your dead animal on bread, i want you to be there when i make a discovery." leia replied, eager to leave.

"what makes you so sure you'll make a breakthrough? there could just be dust in there." august questioned.

"i have intuition, duh." leia said, acting sure of herself as always.

"whatever, bozo. i'll be back in a gif." august declared, walking off in the direction of the concession stand.

hours later the football field was taped up and filled with reporters, cops, and police detectives. there had never been such an ordeal about their small school, which made it weird to see all the commotion.

august sat on the step of the bleachers, crying tears of guilt. she believed that she let leia go missing, and she couldn't help feeling in such a way. her parents tried to comfort her, but it didn't help. nothing helped.

"august?" yelled a curious Penny.

Penelope Whitehead was an extraordinarily kind creature. she always helped anyone in need of it, so when she saw august standing at the fence of the field, white as a ghost and still as a mouse, she of course had to butt in.

"are you alright, dear? you look pale as the sun, august." she asked, not allowing august to answer.

"oh, yeah, i'm fine." replied august, still not quite snapped back into reality yet.

"oh, alright, well. i guess i'll let you get back to it. enjoy the game." penny said, returning to her smiley face and walking away from the pale girl.

august never truly liked penny, while she was nice and all, she really truly gave a certain feeling off like she was fake and only she could see into it. maybe she was paranoid, but who could tell.

she walked over to the bleachers, not hesitating. after the memories of her past were reintroduced to her, she couldn't go back to the stairs. she couldn't deal with that right now. not yet.
