I closed the door behind me, locking it.
The lights came on and my Mother appeared. "Oh sweetheart. Are you alright? Did you walk far?"
"No Mom. I'm fine." I swatted her hands away. "I told you not to wait up. You know you've gotta work tomorrow."
"Oh baby." She said. "Thank you for being concerned but I couldn't sleep knowing that you'd just be out there alone."
"Well I'm fine. Let's get you to bed." I said. "After you."
She walked up the stairs and Briana stumbled into the hallway.
I picked her up and she fell asleep on my shoulder. I flipped off the lights and carried her to her bedroom, then I retreated to my own.

The next day I met Lavender at our usual spot.
She had worn a skirt today.

I shook my head, reluctantly tearing my gaze away from her.

She rolled her eyes, laughing.

I pulled her closer, kissing her lightly.
She kissed me back slowly, sighing.
She pulled away after a few seconds.
