Lavender
I opened my eyes slowly to see my mother standing over me. She smiled happily.
I smiled back and waved.
She pointed to my alarm clock and I jumped. 7:30. I had overslept.
I ran around my room, getting dressed for school and making my bed in record time.
She sat down at my computer and started typing and then she left, smiling to herself.
I glanced at the screen.
Your father is waiting outside. Lunch is on the counter. Do great today!
I grabbed my bookbag and ran out the door.
As soon as my dad pulled out of the carpool lane, I took off running to my first period class.
Why had they let me sleep?
I opened the door to see my teacher, Mrs. Smith, standing with a student.
I mentally face-plamed. We were supposed to have a new student today.
All eyes turned to me as I walked in. I waved at everybody and they waved back.
Before I could make it to my seat I felt a small tap on my shoulder.
I turned to face the person, The new student, and noticed immediately how soft his hair looked.
It looked silky and light. I was wondering if he knew sign language so I could ask him how when I noticed Mrs. Smith, calling me over.
She handed me two sheets of paper.
The first one was the notes for her class today.
The second was a letter.
Lavender,
Our new student's name is Justin Sanders. You and him have all of the same classes, so I want you to be his guide. The other teachers have been informed.
Don't forget to smile and introduce yourself!
Mrs. Smith
Well that's simple enough. I can do the same work as everyone else, just not in the same way.
Because I can't hear like everybody else in my classes.
I turned back to the boy and he smiled at me.
His lips formed the word Hi and I pointed to my ears.
Mrs.Smith put her hands on my shoulder as she explained to him my situation. Realization dawned on his face and he smiled at me.
Then he took a bow, showing me his ID.
I laughed. So this is our new class clown.
I walked to my seat and he sat next to me so that we could finish class.
In the next class I immediately picked up my notes and homework from Mr. Brown.
He greeted Justin happily and gestured to two empty seats in the first to last row.
About twenty minutes into class I started reading my notes.
Students will complete a presentatin on topic of their choice.
Due: Next week, Monday.

RomantizmTears clouded my vision and I tripped. "Whoa! Are you ok?" He asked, kneeling beside me. I got up ready to run again but he caught my wrist. "Lavender, please." I shook my head, struggling to pull my arm from his grasp. "Stop it." He said firmly. I...
