Agent South Dakota and I took the area floor. It was time to "introduce" myself to the top dogs of Project Freelancer.

"Round One, Pugil Stick Training. Three. Two. One. Round Start," FILSS announced over the intercom.

We were each given a pugil stick, a long stick wtih two electric current generators, one on each end. South turned to me, wielding her pugil stick with both hands. I couldn't see her expression through her visor but I'm sure that she was staring at me in disgust.

The pugil stick was sorta heavy, but, I could manage. I grasped the staff in both hands, this was just like staffs, just heavier...and electrically charged.

South charged me, wielding the stick like a club and swung it downwards directly at me. I quickly leapt and rolled to the left, bringing up the stick to block her second swing, a vertical one that was level with my head since I was crouched. I twisted my stick sending South's over my head and then stuck it to the ground. I brought the second end of my stick up toward South's chin. She leaned back casually and then yanked her pugil stick free.

She did a few fancy twists with her pugil stick. I wasn't intimidated, just analyzing the situation. South didn't take her time to charge me again. She rushed in close then pumped her right hand which thrust one half of the pugil stick toward my left shoulder. I slid backward to evade. Then she threw the other half toward my right calf. I picked up my foot and dodged.

"She has quick reflexes," York noted to the rest of the agents who were observing the fight.

"Not that quick," Carolina countered. "Just quicker than, South's. That and she isn't attacking, evasive manuevers don't win battles."

"Sometimes the best offense is a good defense," North countered. "Remember that Insurrection Base?"

South quickly swung high. I dove for South's legs. I dragged my pugil stick with me which caught South's left foot. After clearing South's legs I yanked hard and she lost her balance. I was on my feet like lightning, I thrust the pugil stick squarely in her back. She stumbled forward, recovering quickly, turning around. South did a two-handed low swing. I leapt up just in time, my pugil stick slipping from my fingers, and landed on the staff part of the pugil stick. I took a step running upward then stepped on South's shoulder. Then I backflipped dodging South's next uppercut attack. I landed just as my pugil stick was bouncing back up. I grabbed it and blocked South's new barrage of attacks. When her momentum wore out I began to attack, her counters getting sluggish and weak.

Upper right. South blocked but slid. I thrust the pugil stick which landed on her left shoulder. She stumbled backward. A horizonal swing in the midsection knocked the pugil stick from her hands. I used the edge to smack South across the face as hard as I could. Using the momentum I jammed the  other end of the stick into her hip, spun around and stabbed her left foot then her left upper chest and finally spun back again and hit her in her other hip.

South fell to the ground.

"Pugil Sticks Training Complete. Point Awarded to Agent Alaska," FILSS announced over the intercom.

"That was impressive," York replied.

"It wasn't that fantastic, some of the blocks were sloppy," Carolina replied. "Alaska certainly isn't Agent Texas."

"Alaska kicked South's ass," Washington replied.

"It was obvious Alaska used his smaller stature to his advantage."

"What's going on?" the Director inquired, entering the room.

"Sir!" all the FREELANCERs snapped to attention.
