"Um...well...I guess we could share." I suggest while walking further into the room and putting my luggage down.
"I don't think that's a good idea." Garrett tells me as puts his bag down next to mine.
"So what are you going to do? Sleep on the floor?"
"Yeah" He replies as if it was the most obvious solution.
"You're being ridiculous Garrett, but if you really don't want to share a bed with me, then let me sleep on the floor." I say as I watch Garrett take some ghost hunting equipment out of his bag.
"It's fine, trust me. I actually enjoy sleeping on the floor because it's like camping, but without the tent and inside a building."
"Garrett, THAT MAKES ZERO SENSE." I shout in frustration. "Fine if the thought of sharing a bed with me disgusts you THAT MUCH then sleep on the floor. You can even sleep outside for all I care. Do what you want."
I grab my camera and my phone and march out of the room leaving Garrett to lock up behind us. I don't even stop to wait for him and I practically run to where Shane said he wanted us to meet.
"Hey, where's Garrett?" Shane asks while looking behind me.
"Oh he'll be here in a bit."
After a few minutes Garrett appears around the corner, but he doesn't say anything or act like his usual self. I know he doesn't like it when I raise my voice at him or when we have arguments, but I was really upset and I will admit that I was getting too emotional over nothing. He doesn't have to share a bed with me if he doesn't want to, but it would have been nice.
~ A couple of hours later ~
The time is midnight and we have decided to go to sleep for a few hours and wake back up again around 3am. So me and Garrett bid our goodbyes to the rest of the squad as we head our separate ways. The corridor we are walking down is eerily quiet and now that I think about it...I actually haven't seen a single guest on this ship besides our small group.
Once we reach the outside of our room I hear a loud bang causing me to grab Garrett's hand, but then I immediately let go after he gives me a confused look.
"Sorry, this place is scary." I laugh nervously as Garrett opens the door.
"It is. I'll protect you though." He says while giving me a small smile.
"I'm sorry about arguing with you earlier, you know...about the whole bed situation." I apologise to him and put the camera away safely in one of the draws.
"I'm sorry too. It was a stupid thing to fight over." He says as he opens the closet doors to find a couple of towels. "I'm going to use these as my blankets." He tells me while trying to make a comfortable place for them on the floor.
"Here you can have one of these." I say as I throw a pillow in his direction and it lands on the floor next to his feet. "Are you ready for me to turn the lights off?" I ask him as I make my way over to the switch.
He gives me a nod and then I turn off the main light, so now we're in complete darkness, but because it's complete darkness I can't actually see how to get to the bed...I didn't really think this through...
Suddenly I trip over the luggage that was left on the floor from earlier and go falling forward. I was expecting my body to collide with the hard hotel floor, but instead I fall onto Garrett who is now lying on his bed of towels.
He lets out a small grunt from the impact, but then lets out a laugh. His arms are wrapped around me and his breath tickles the side of my neck. "Are you alright?" He asks me while moving to a more comfortable position.
"I'm alright now." I whisper quietly as I listen to his heartbeat and the rhythm of his breathing, but then I remember that I should get to bed, so I untangle myself from Garrett.
Luckily for me the bed is right next to where I fell, so I collapse onto it straight away. It's surprisingly comfortable, but I guess Shane did pay a good price for the rooms. This just makes me feel even worse that Garrett is stuck on the floor.
"Garrett?"
He jolts and looks up at me with wide eyes. "What's the matter?"
"Nothing, just come over here."
He hesitates, but then walks over to me and I reach out and take one of his hands.
"Garrett, you're freezing." I tell him as his skin feels cold to the touch. "Why didn't you say anything?"
"I didn't want to bother you." He admits to me and I stare at him for a moment longer before making a decision.
"Jump in." I say as I pull back the covers and he gives me an alarmed look as if I had just asked him the stupidest thing ever.
"Andrew..."
"What? It makes sense because you'll be warmer with me and also you can protect me from any scary ghosts." I smile at him and he pauses for a while before giving in.
He carefully slides in next to me on my right side, facing me, so now both of our faces are extremely close to each other. Garrett pulls the blanket back up and tucks it in around us for extra warmth.
"I am sorry if you're uncomfortable right now." I say to him as I feel one of his legs accidentally brush against mine.
"I'm not uncomfortable."
I smile and I feel my eyes flutter close. It's really warm and cosy with Garrett next to me. Almost too cosy, as in love-to-have-it-be-this-way-every-time-I-sleep-cosy.
Which of course is why I wake up with my arms and legs wrapped around him. What is weirder though, is that not only is Garrett letting me, but he also has an arm around me, and his fingers are moving, tenderly stroking up and down my back.
"Garrett?" I ask hoping that he can hear me.
"Yeah." He answers with a yawn.
"I wanted to share a bed with you and that's why I got upset when you told me you wanted to sleep alone." I admit and I think that I'm too tired to care about the consequences of what's coming out of my mouth.
I look up to see his reaction and there's no judgement, disgust or anger in Garrett's eyes like I thought there would be...only this soft warm expression that is slowly unfurling and it makes my chest equally warm and calm.
"I'm trying to tell you...that I'm in love with you." I say without holding anything back. I never thought I would actually ever say that to him, especially sober.
Garrett gasps and it's enough to make me feel uncomfortable for a second.
"I understand if you don't feel the same-"
"ME TOO." Garrett blurts out. "I...uh...have the same romantic feelings for you..."
They both lie there for a while, resting in the simplicity of the moment: of being in love, and finally knowing that they're being loved back.
