Warning: major death
Andrew walks towards the hospital room to a frantically mumbling woman, leaning over Garrett's body. "Doctor?" He speaks as he makes his way to the bed where Garrett lay, looking pale and frozen, something is wrong.
"I'm sorry, but there's nothing else I can do-" the doctor begins talking, her voice is soft, but she looks drained and her eyes are empty.
"Garrett? Garrett, wake up." Andrew says as he can feel the panic building up inside him.
"He's dead, sir, I'm so sorry." The doctor tells him as she rubs her eyes, then sighs as she walks around Andrew out of the room.
Garrett's eyes are closed, the monitor above him is all at red and his pulse is nothing, but a straight line. He really is dead.
Andrew lets out a shaky breath and lets his fingers trace the palm of Garrett's hand. His skin is abnormally cold, which only reminds him of how alive he had once been. He can't take it. He feels so much, so much more than he has ever felt and he just wants it to stop. He wants the pain to disappear and for Garrett to be alive.

The funeral is held on a bright, summer's day, which seems wrong for the occasion. It should be dark, wet and windy to fit the mood. Everyone that has ever been a part of Garrett's life has attended and they are all crying more tears than they've ever cried in their lives.
The room that they've rented out is packed with people, which gives Andrew way too much anxiety, so he walks off to a quiet corner to drink a glass of whiskey by himself. Shane notices this and goes to join him.
Shane touches Andrew's arm lightly, "I'm sorry." He hugs him whispering, "I'm so sorry."
Andrew does not reciprocate the hug, he just stands there clutching his drink which awkwardly gets in the way.
"Andrew, what are you feeling? What do you need to say?" Shane questions as he pulls away.
Andrew licks his lips, which are suddenly dry. "It should have been me. I should've died, not him."
Shane shakes his head. "Don't say that, it isn't your fault he-"
"But it is, Shane! It is entirely my fault he died. I was driving the car. He said he was scared. He was right next to me, dying and scared and I couldn't help him!"
Shane tries to calm him by taking his hands. "Andrew, look at me!"
Andrew takes a deep breath. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have shouted like that."
"Don't be sorry." Shane smiles slightly. "You're human and you've lost someone who meant a lot to you, this is a normal reaction."
Andrew can only give him a pained expression. "I feel so many emotions at once...rage, grief, fear, emptiness...it feels as if a part of me was ripped away. I felt that because he's dead...so am I..."
---------------------
A year later, a month before Shane is about to release a Netflix documentary, Shane calls Andrew and asks if he wants to come over to hang out. Andrew hasn't had an emotional break down for a couple of weeks, so he feels like he can visit a friend without losing control.
He stands at the front door and knocks. Shane answers with a smile on his face and invites Andrew inside.
"Do you want anything to drink? I've got diet coke, diet A&W and some more diet coke..." Shane asks, walking into the kitchen.
"No, thank you." He politely declines. "Is there a reason you asked me to come over?"
Shane comes back with a diet coke in his hand and sits on the couch. Andrew joins him.
"I wanna talk to you." Shane takes a deep breath. "It's about Garrett." Andrew has noticed that everyone takes a deep breath just before mentioning him. "Me and Garrett were best friends, so he would tell me everything. He would tell me the adventures he had, the people he met, but most of all, he talked to me about you."
Andrew raises an eyebrow causing Shane to chuckle and the thought of feeling anything close to joy while discussing Garrett makes Andrew confused.
"Now, I know Garrett would have taken years to tell you, especially because he thought you would never feel anything back, but I saw the way you were at the funeral...Andrew...Garrett was in love with you. Garrett loved you with all that he could and would've done anything for you."
He understands it all now. The subtle touches Garrett always gave him, the way he looked at him, he laughed at all of Andrew's silly jokes, he wanted to be around him all day every day, he got upset whenever Andrew mentioned a pretty girl.
"I didn't know." Andrew almost whispers.
"I think you did." Shane sighs. "I know you might not want to talk about this, but just to set my mind at ease, did you feel anything for him?"
Andrew suddenly bursts into tears, then falls into Shane's lap as he cries loud and painful screams.
