Warning: Heavy angst and implied character suicide.
Andrew stood in front of the mirror, unaware of Garrett's presence.
"Garrett, can you help me?" Perhaps not so unaware then.
"Sure, I'll do anything for you on your wedding day." Andrew turned, eyebrows raised, multiple ties hanging from his hands.
"It's so weird hearing you say that." Andrew giggled nervously. "I can't decide on one of these." He looked up at Garrett, sweetly, which caused Garrett's heart to leapt, but he ignored it.
"Andrew," He strode forward to clap his friend on the shoulder. "Whatever you chose will look great, but honestly, if you pick the orange one then we can't be friends anymore."
------------
Morgan was a vision, she was angelic. Andrew looked no where else, but upon his bride. Garrett felt as though his heart would break apart. It was a special breed of torture he felt, to stand, inches from Andrew as he wedded Morgan. It was only when their kiss ended, sealing the ceremony that he breathed out a shaky breath amidst the loud applause. He felt as if he was dying.
Later at the reception, Garrett approached the bride.
"Congratulations, Morrganics!" She has been his close friend now for many years and was not easily fooled.
"Thanks, Garebear." Garrett felt disgust curl within him as he witnessed the pity shining in her lovely eyes. He walked away, but then felt a hand on his shoulder, he turned around.
"You don't look great." Shane's brow furrowed in concern. Garrett almost sobbed in relief and disappointment.
"I've been better." He managed. Shane looked pained, pitiful. Garrett felt like he would perhaps catch alight or maybe fall down a massive hole in the floor. His head begun to spin, he craved the privacy of his house.
"I might leave early."
Shane looked as if he had something he wanted to say...offer advice perhaps? Comfort? In the end he settled with neither.
"Good idea, Gare."
----------
Andrew was dismayed as he was unable to find Garrett. He had come to think of Garrett as his closest friend and companion, aside from Morgan. He desired his friend's company very much on what would most likely be the most socially significant occurrence of his life. Amidst the general, lengthy conversations and small talk, Garrett's whereabouts was constantly on his mind.
It was his other close friend and work partner, Shane, that alerted him of Garrett's absence.
"Well..." Shane paused, looking down as he swirled his drink in his hand. "I wish you guys the best." He looked up again with a small smile and Andrew thought he saw some unidentifiable emotion flash across his features, but it vanished before he could examine it. Morgan pulled Andrew closer to her.
"Thank you, Shane." Her smile infectious, that it caused Andrew to forget about Garrett's disappearance for a moment.
----------
Shane always thought he was good at reading people and dealing with human emotions, but after countless introductions to family members at that miserable wedding, he wanted nothing more than to strangle Andrew, to yell and scream in his face for being so idiotic.
Later, as he got into his car, he took out his phone, concerned for Garrett's wellbeing.
"Up for a drink? It'll make you feel better, I promise" He was met with a strange silence, a silence highly unlike Garrett. Given the circumstances, panic seared through his stomach, hot and immediate, then he began to drive fast, not caring about driving above the speed limit. Lovesick, destructive Garrett was not a creature Shane trusted.
----------
As he entered Garrett's home with his spare key, which was in case of emergencies, his hands shook, his throat was tight. Shane didn't dare to think of what a heartbroken Garrett was capable of. He burst into the house, Garrett nowhere to be seen. Then he heard it, a small noise from the bathroom, he started towards it, his voice shaking.
"Garrett!" He was met with a cold silence. As the door pushed open, he was greeted by the sight of Garrett cold, weak and still.
