At lunch, Ariella's friends couldn't believe the story about English class.
"It wasn't that big of a deal." Ariella said and her friends just gaped at her.
"Did the dye seep into your brain while you were changing your hair color because you're acting crazy." Beth said and Ariella raised her eyebrows.
"What Cooper said meant nothing. You know what he's like." she said and looked at her food.
"Then why is he coming over here right now?" Beth said and Ariella whipped her head to her left. Just as Beth said, cocky Cooper was heading over to their usual lunch table.
"What the hell is he doing?" Ariella whispered as Cooper finally made his way over.
"Ariella and friends." Cooper said with a smile and Beth raised an eyebrow.
"My friend Mike is having a party this Saturday night and it would be wonderful if you ladies could make it." he said, trying to charm all of the girls. Needless to say it was working.
"I'm busy." Ariella answered and Beth elbowed her.
"We'll be there." Beth said and Ariella shook her head.
"I won't." she said and looked Cooper right in the eyes.
"If you change your mind-" Cooper said and slid a piece of paper to Ariella before walking away.
"Well?" Beth asked and Ariella looked around at all her friends. They were impatiently waiting for her to read off the paper.
"It's a number and it says call me." Ariella said with an unamused look on her face.
She tossed the paper into the middle of the table.
"Take it if you want it. Because I'm not calling him." she said and left the table. As she walked out, she could see Cooper staring at her with cold eyes.
The scene at lunch replayed itself over and over in Ariella's head for the rest of the day. It was like everywhere she looked, Cooper was there.
On the bus ride home, Ariella was looking out the window when she saw Cooper skateboarding down the street. Why couldn't there be more guys like Channing Tatum in the town? She turned her music up but kept her eyes on Cooper and watched his serious face as he skated. He looked over and Ariella didn't bother to avert her eyes. He winked and she gave him the finger before turning back to face forward.
When Ariella got home, her dog greeted her and her mom was in her bed on her phone. Ariella grabbed some crackers and went to her room. She turned on her laptop and went on her social networking sites. Her phone kept buzzing with texts. All from Beth.
'ariella listen to me'
'call cooper'
'i have his number'
'dont ignore me bitch'
'we're going on saturday whether you like it or not'
Ariella just rolled her eyes and turned vibrate off on her phone. But the screen lighting up caught her attention each time.
And now Beth was calling her.
"Hello?" Ariella answered, irritated.
"Seriously, Ariella?" Beth said and Ariella clenched her jaw.
"I'm very busy right now." she said and she could hear Beth scoffing.
"Yeah, busy eating crackers and scrolling through tumblr, we all know." Beth said and Ariella put down the cracker she had in her hand. Beth knew her too well.
