Senior year of high school is so tiring to mallory, she hated it with a passion. mallory sat down in her boring mythology class, waiting for the teacher to start his boring lecture. mallory usually loved this class but she just wasn't feeling it today.
"we will be starting a project," mr. baldwin began to speak. "starting from the person on the end, turn to the student to your right and wave hello to them, that is your new partner."
mallory looked to the empty seat next to her and felt happy, she liked working independently. just then, the door slung open and a boy with many books and papers in his hands rushed into the room - luke.
"sorry i'm late," luke stammered, catching a piece of paper that flew from the stack.
"it's alright. welcome our new student, everyone. this is lucas," the teacher smiled.
"call me luke," luke didn't want to be known as lucas, his father preferred it but didn't actually require him to be called it - so he let luke be luke.
"you can sit next to ms. mallory in the back. mallory raise your hand," mallory awkwardly began to raise her hand at the teacher's request.
"perfect," luke sighed, walking to the back and plopping down to the right of mallory. luke knew about the project, and he knew what the project was going to be about - unlike the rest of the students.
"the project is on mythological creatures. choose a creature and list these facts about it.." the teacher rambled on and on about what the project is about.
"guess we're partners," luke cheered, turning to his left at mallory once the teacher finished explaining.
mallory just nodded. she felt something odd about luke, but she didn't know what. it wasn't a bad odd it was just.. odd.
"what's your name? i never caught it at the coffee shop," luke pretended as if he didn't know her, but he did. he knew everything about her, things mallory didn't even know about herself.
"mallory." she smiled a bit. she thought luke was cute and liked the fact he seemed to lighten the mood as soon as he walked in the room. sometimes, it even seemed like he literally lit up the room.
"so what do you want to do the project on?" mallory was starting to warm up to luke, feeling more confident to talk to him.
"hm.. what about angels? i know a lot about angels," luke suggested.
mallory nodded. "okay, cool. how do you know a lot about angels?"
luke nervously tried to come up with something, she couldn't find out his secret. "um.. they've always just interested me so i've done some research.." he sighed in relief that he came up with an excuse fast enough that mallory wouldn't grow suspicion. but mallory still grew suspicion, why was he so interested an angles anyways? luke sensed her suspicion but just ignored it in hopes she would ignore it too. and so the rest of the class luke and mallory talked about angels. and for once, luke didn't know something.
he didn't know mallory was starting to grow feelings for him and that mallory was still suspicious.
