Mallory smoothed down her knee-length skirt, adjusting her clothing in the tall mirror on her bedroom door. luke was coming over to mallory's home so they could work on the project together. it's very funny, honestly - how mallory was getting prepared for luke to come over but he was already there, mallory just didn't know that. the door bell rang as mallory ran her fingers through her hair. she looked in the mirror one last time before racing down the steep staircase. she opened her beige front door and there stood luke, a smile plastered across his face.

"hello," luke held out his arms, offering a hug. mallory giggled as she wrapped her arms around his torso but she immediately stepped back when she felt a shock as she touched him. it felt like a fire had been ignited in her. it was the strangest feeling.

luke cleared his throat and tried to act as if he didn't know why she pulled away so quickly.

"come in," mallory took a step back for luke to walk in. he stepped into the home with his hands stuffed in his pockets, puffing out his cheeks.

"what a lovely home," luke commented, noticing a clay statue of an angel set on the dining room table.

mallory noticed him staring at the small sculpture. "my dad sculpts on his free time."

luke nods, not satisfied that the sculpture is the stereotypical angel - naked with humongous wings. luke didn't walk around naked, that was weird. and luke had wings but not all the time. confused, are you? i wouldn't guess - i mean, you've all probably figured out luke was an angel by now - a literal angel.

but mallory didn't know that.

mallory guided luke into the living area. it lied across from the kitchen, where mrs. hill prepared dinner. mrs. hill worked as a chef in a restaurant and prepared extraordinary food.

"good evening mrs. hill, i'm lucas but you may call me luke," luke politely greeted. luke was always polite.

mrs. hill quickly jolted her head upward from the cutting board, startled at the sound of an unfamiliar male voice.

"oh hello lucas - luke. it's very nice to meet you. i'm guessing you're mallory's partner for the mythology project," she wiped off her small hands on her floral apron, walking over to luke and shaking his hand. mrs. hill felt the shock too but simply ignored the feeling, thinking nothing of it.

luke slowly nodded his head. "indeed,"

"well, i'll finish cutting this up and i'll leave you two to you're business," mrs. hill smiled wide and rushed over to finish her task. she felt like there was some sort of connection between luke and mallory and didn't want to interfere with the cute scenario between these two. but mrs. hill didn't realize the connection between these two wasn't cute at all.

luke too off his book bag before planting himself on the large brown couch, waiting for mallory. mallory quickly joined him, placing her book bag in her lap as well.

"we should just write down a bunch of facts about angels, right? to start off," mallory took out her notepad and mythology textbook as luke nodded. luke didn't need to do any research whatsoever. after all, he was an angel himself.

"wanna listen to some music?" mallory offered and luke smiled, nodding his head.

"I'll let you choose then." mallory suggested. luke took her offer, pulling his phone out of his back pocket. he searched through his music library before finally picking a song of his favorite genre - gospel. mallory listened to the words and laughed lightly.

"Oh my god, luke, is this gospel?" mallory cackled, rolling her head back in laughter as she held onto her books.

luke tensed up at mallory using God's name in vain. he tried to calm himself as he forced out a light laugh.

"yeah, yeah. i can change it if you want," luke twirled his pencil in between his pale, glowing fingers, biting his lip in embarrassment.

"no, it's fine." mallory smiled. "i just didn't expect you to listen to this kind of music."

but you see, mallory, you don't expect anything about luke. i mean, you're suspicious but you don't expect the secret he holds.
