A recently married couple found out their son, Clay, or Dream as he prefers, had the disease 'Xeroderma Pigmentosum' when he was a toddler. He had developed a rash on his arm in the spring time, at the age of 3. They didn't know what could've caused it, seeing as he mostly wore short sleeves, and they knew what things he was and wasn't allgeric to. They did what they thought was best, and took him to the Doctor. Their lives changed on that Doctor's visit. They had discovered Dream's disease. Luckily, the rash would heal and he'd be okay. It didn't form skin cancer, so he was perfectly safe. Unfortunately, it still made him more likely to die than he already is, if he got into the sunlight once more.
They changed their whole life for Dream. Mostly the house, though. They got special inhanced windows, so the sunlight couldn't hurt Dream. They got their car windows changed to the same exact type of window. They even were going to try their best to homeschool him when he was ready for school.
Dream grew up thinking his life was normal. He was just a homeschooled boy that didn't go outside much. He always had to ask to do things, if he asked to go outside, his parents would make up an excuse for him to not be able to go out there. He shrugged it off and played somewhere else.
Dream was told the truth when he was fourteen. He took it hard, but eventually he understood that he couldn't control it. It wasn't his fault. Life has its obstacles, this was one of them. He'd figure out how to live with it. He's seventeen now. He learned.
Drista, Dream's younger sister, found out about her brother's disease last year, right after she had turned the age twelve. She took it well and didn't treat her brother any different.
Dream embraces the fact that he isn't normal, the life he is living isn't normal. The last time Dream was outside was for his Doctor's visit when he was 3. He grew up not going outside, though, sometimes at night Drista wants to play outside with him, so they let him go out then. They bought him many video games and things he liked that he could play with inside, just so he could stay happy. He is happy, if he didn't have his disease and lives like this, he still would be happy. He appreciates everything his parents and sister do for him.
He's not lonely either. He has his family and siblings, but he also has his best friend; Sapnap. His parents met Sapnap's parents a while back, around 5 years ago. They met at a neighborhood barbecue. The family that lived near them, were friends with Sapnap's family, so they invited them. They all met and instantly bonded. They conversed about Dream and Sapnap, and decided that the two should meet, so they planned a hangout for the two boys. The two were then basically bonded for life. They had many things in common; their competitive nature when playing games, their favorite game being Minecraft, and similar music taste. In fact, Sapnap and Dream together created their first YouTube profiles so they could share their Minecraft experiences. Sapnap doesn't use his real name and Dream came up with the name 'Sapnap' because Sapnap loves pandas and 'Sapnap' is sort of 'Pandas' backwards. Dream's is just 'Dream' because he doesn't use his real name either and it's easy to spell and know.
Sapnap is a great friend to Dream, he has been ever since they first met. He stands up for him and helps him when he's down. He's always there for him, and he's promised to Dream multiple times that he's never leaving him. Dream believes him.
Thus, Dream isn't alone and he isn't unhappy. He has multiple hobbies that he can do and people to talk to. Maybe that 'people' is Sapnap, but that's okay. He needs Sapnap and only Sapnap, he's content with his life.
His life that includes not really having a sleeping schedule because he doesn't have to get up for school because his family teaches him. Usually though, he sleeps in the morning because he does work in the afternoon when his parents are home. If he is awake in the mornings though, he loves watching the outside through his bay window. He sits there and stares at all the people walking by, and the beautiful scenery. He adores the outside, he does see it, mostly at night, but he wishes he could see places other than outside his bedroom window, lit up by the bright sun in the sky that can cast shadows that make you feel effervescent, or set a glow on things that make you entranced with them.
It's all the same; everyday is basically the same routine. He wishes for a simple change in things. He wants his life to get a little more spice brought into it. Life just feels dull for Dream, even if he's oh, so happy and appreciative with his family and how things are around him.
He just needs a change.
