Braden
I owe Luna Alec my life. I mean, it's not like I really died that day. I didn't leave my room for three days, missed my birthday altogether and became pretty dehydrated, but I didn't die.
Once I'd managed to stop my raging hormones, and showered thoroughly, enough to re-join the pack and pack activities, the Alpha pointed out that it was his idea to get something with Jae's scent on it. While that's most likely true, it wouldn't have been possible without the Luna.
I've long since given up on worrying how crazy my mate must think I am. I've also accepted that he sent the items of clothing purely to please his hyung. So far, I've already received more of my mate than I had originally thought possible and that's why I owe the Luna my life.
I'm not sure it was being able to scent myself with Jae's clothing, or due to all the self-attained satisfaction, but I've felt more balanced the past few weeks. I still want to see my mate, but a lot of the constant aching has gone away. It's the closest I've felt like myself in almost nine months. It also gives me hope that I'll be able to survive being apart from Jae.
Most of my spare time is spent at the clinic now. As a thank you, I've taken it upon myself to do the thorough cleaning required of the clinic, making sure the right way to do it for the safety of the pack members and all the sweet little animals that are treated there. At first, Luna Alec protested, claiming it was a birthday present and was supposed to be enjoyed, but he doesn't realize how much better, how much saner, I feel.
The Alpha doesn't mind, because he understands the pack mentality we have to help take care of each other. Also, he understands how much Jae's scent means to me. Hmm, maybe I should offer to clean the Alpha's office, too, if I can find time?
It won't be tonight, I'm still wiping down the exam room. Since Dee left earlier, Luna Alec is still out at the reception desk, saying good-bye to his final patient for the day, a sassy little Pomeranian named Eric. After this room is wiped down, I need to sweep and mop the entire clinic and check on Ms. Frizzle, the sick little iguana that's staying overnight for observation.
The Luna's trained me how to check the animal's vitals, but the vet himself will be coming down every couple of hours to make sure she's good throughout the night. Alpha Christopher should be arriving here soon as well, since the Luna is going to stay at his apartment tonight.
"Need any help in here?" Luna Alec stands in the doorway; the last patient must be gone.
"Nope, almost done wiping things down, then the floors."
"Okay, I'd tell you again not to bother, but I'll save my breath." I laugh a little at the Luna's exaggerated exasperation. "Go home after that, though. I'm going to go check on the Frizz right now."
"Yes, Luna." I say respond before he turns to head down the hall. He only takes a few steps before his phone goes off. Recognizing the ring tone, I drop my rag and race to skid out into the hallway. The Luna is already pulling his phone out of his pocket, motioning me to be quiet with one finger to his lips.
"Yeoboseyo," he answers. I slide a little closer, my ears easily pick up Jae's voice from the other side of the line.
"Anyoung haseyo, hyung." Thanks to all the hard work with the Luna, I can understand the greeting, although I can't keep up when they start chatting. The unexpected treat of hearing his voice tonight has me silently dancing a in the hall next to the Luna. Pumping my hands into the air, I wiggle my hips in my happy dance. Used to this, the Luna doesn't even bat an eye.
With all my attention on the voice coming through the phone, I don't notice when the Alpha arrives, parking his truck in the front. It isn't until he comes striding through the still unlocked front door instead of entering his code at the back door that I realize he's here.
